| I downloaded a service manual, which looks to be stripped from a CD-Rom of sorts because the files are all ISO type. I've ran them through 7-Zip, and can actually view them, but it looks as though the manual is set up to be used as a CD Rom. Only problem is, I can't burn them on my desktop because the CD burner program was nuked when I reloaded XP. Can I save the original ISO file on a thumbdrive and burn it it a CD on my laptop and be able to use the disk as a CD Rom, or will it simply burn as ISO files? How should I proceed? |

Quoted: Ok, stupid question here...what do you mean by a "virtual drive"?? virtual drive software will turn the cd image file (iso) into a virtual cd/dvd that you can interact with just like a real cd/dvd. on windows it will show up as a normal drive and be assigned a letter and listed under "my computer" like a real drive but will actually still just be a file sitting on your harddrive. edit: i personally use daemon tools for virtual drive software. |

You can copy them just like any other file. There are also apps which will let you mount them as a virtual drive. I've also got a USB device which lets me mount ISO images as a USB CDROM/DVD. |

You can tell your operating system to treat an ISO file like it was a CD. In other words, mounting the file it like a new disk drive and reading it like a CD.
Is there a program I need to downlaod to accomplish this, or can I simply do it with XP? There's been two programs mentioned already..

Most windows users would be well-advised to download some spyware, malware, adware (or some combination of those three) ridden "free" software to accomplish the task. Several such programs have been mentioned already, chances are you can find one that fits your needs. Me, I just issue a mount command with a loop device statement.

I use daemon tools lite to mount ISO's I use imgburn to burn ISO's. This. edit - I think VLC media player will handle ISO's as well. VLC handles EVERYTHING. I love that program. I've been trying for 3 hours to get a version on my Droid 4. No dice on video streaming. Motocast is being a bitch right now... it used to work fine.

Ok, I haven't had a chance to download any of the mentioned programs, but I did try using Power ISO and burned to a CD. It didn't really work as a CD Rom, it simply burned all the individual files on the CD (that don't open). Will the other programs actually open the file as a working CD Rom?
eta: Here's the file in question: http://www.green-oval.com/data/lr/rave03.iso |

Since you're using Windows XP:
Microsoft Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel package |
| I tried Daemon tools, and it did basically the same as PowerISO. Would someone mind downloading the file above and running it, and seeing what you get? I thought it was actually a complete service manual, but it looks like it may just be a tutorial on how to use the manual. Thanks! |

If you have Nero. Launch Nero StartSmart. Under Copy and Backup. Select Burn Image To Disk. |
| I *think* I may have opened the ISO files correctly, and that it simply may be a case of the file not being exactly what I thought it was. When I downloaded the file, I thought it was a service manual for a LR, but now that I have opened it, it looks to just be a tutorial for using the manual. That's why I was hoping someone else would download the file and see what they get, specifically someone who knows how to work with these type files. |
