Edit to fix: If I recall correctly, the picture shows the bridge from the Concord side of the river. The photo is taken with roughly the perspective of the British troops. On the other side of the river those Colonial farmers and shopkeepers were waiting, slowly gathering in number.
It's sacred ground in my opinion. It is the time and place that the Colonists first became Americans. I couldn't help but think of the fear and dread that must have been sweeping through the minutemen there. They were resolved, but to an uncertain end. Could they be sure their neighbors would stand with them and fight? No, and they didn't. Once the shooting began in Lexington the Americans retreated. And it wasn't until they regrouped at Concord that a meaningful resistance with practical tactics was undertaken. An uneven and unpredictable beginning to a long campaign. There were more than just a few of them who felt it was worth the risks they were taking. |

Great pics, thanks!
If you haven't read it, I highly recommend the book Paul Revere's Ride by David Hackett Fischer. It is an excellent and very readable account of actions around Boston before and during the Revolution, focusing on Paul Revere and how he was much more than a messenger - showing how he was a big part of the significant amount of organization that the Colonies had done. It has an extensive section on the battles at Lexington, Concord, and the road back to Boston. |

It would seem that we are getting close to this point again. And it will be interesting to see who will stand.

Its a sad day in America when there are tv adds wondering if our children will ever own a home. |
