So there I was right... I was making my way home from the Missouri Bullet Company with 1k .357mag boolits so I could begin my first ever batch of reloads. I stopped at my local gun shop so I could get some price quotes to help me make a decision for which .30-06 bolt gun to get. (Thread HERE.) I have also been interested in picking up a .357mag lever gun (thread), and I had previously asked for a quote on a new Marlin 1894c. I was told at that time that it'd be between $650-$700, but the distributors didn't have any in stock. Today, I asked if maybe that had changed, and the guy behind the counter said "You're looking for .357mag, right?" "Yeah." "Well, we just got one in on consignment." We walked to the other end of the counter and he handed me the rifle. The steel was in great condition and the stock was a bit scuffed on the left side. The proof mark on the barrel: JM. I had no intentions of buying any more guns this month, but I couldn't walk away. I already hesitant to haggle because the price tag of $575 seemed fair, but the shop owner said the guy selling the gun sells several guns there and he doesn't accept reduced offers. I also had no idea when I'd see another non-Remington 1894c. So now I've got this rifle, and I'm wondering if there's anything I need to do other than clean it and shoot the hell out of it. Also, how'd I do? |

My camera is 'bout dead, and I cannot find the charger, so the best I can do is some craptastic cell phone pics. I'm not sure what anybody would get out that. |

Step 1 - Get a 9mm suppressor. Step 2 - Thread .357 lever gun. Step 3 - Wait 6 months. Step 4 - Shoot .38spl through a lever gun with a 9mm can on the end. Step 5 - ??? Step 6 - Profit! I like where this guy is going That's really not a bad idea. You should be able to shoot either 357 or .38 through the 9mm can. (mine is rated for unlimited FA in 9mm). I have a 9mm suppressor. I shoot it on my 9mm upper. It is fun, but not sure-duper quiet with all the bolt noise. I have looked for a decent 9mm bolt gun for years, I never thought about changing to a lever gun in 38 spl. Could be a quiet deer/hog/rabbit/coyote getter. TRG |

TRG I'm not sure that it's legal to hunt with a can here. Also, the design of this thing doesn't lend itself to that. There's only about 1/4" of barrel in front of the mag tube, and the front sight is only a hair behind that. The hooded front sight on this thing is kinda neat, so it'd be a shame to lose it.

Quoted: Quoted: Based on the lack of replies about the rifle itself, I'm guessing I didn't get such a hot deal. ![]() Based on the very few I have seen, I'd say you did fair at worst. *shrug* And at least I have it. I honestly can't even begin to predict when I would have had another such opportunity.

575 for a pre remington marlin isn't a bad deal. Go shoot the heck out of it! the action on mine is a little rough, I've been considering looking up a smith to smooth it out.
Might check if there is a "cowboy action" type gunsmith in your area if your lever needs some slicking up. Other than that.....post some pictures, and congrats!! |

The difference it makes vs standard fluid lubes is amazing. It's obviously no replacement for a good smithing, but it may help.
