For the first time in 30 years I have found myself unemployed. The Company I have worked for has closed the door after 60 years in business. Kind of sad to see it go really, the owners  were good people and my fellow employees and customers were the best.
I feel good about hitting the streets to find new opportunity. My goal is to find a job before Unemployment benefits start, should be about 3 weeks.
I know I am not alone out there and good luck to all of you in a similar situation

I signed up already but wait time is 3 weeks before it starts. The worst part is Child support, I called them to find out about temp modifacation  and they told me because they are so backloged with all the request it will take months to get to my case. they told me to get a attorney. Like I really want to spend my emergency funds on a attorney.

Not a union problem. It is pure shitty economy issues with a little mis managment thrown in

It's ALWAYS a Union problem, it can NEVER be the Obama economy or Mismanagement.

Good luck OP, maybe the CS support division is hiring considering their "backlog" of cases.

The EPA has killed more existing and possible new jobs in this country then all the unions put together.

ETA, I will also be unemployed at the end of May.

Best of luck, man. I have been hitting the streets for the last couple of weeks, despite the fact I have a pretty good job...I just hate what I do, and it definitely is not keeping me knee deep in bitches and benjamins.

Yep. No more dealing with a moron (oops...I mean moran) boss, no more incompetent coworkers, and no more dreading going to work.

Sure, it's a booger having to tighten the belt spending-wise, but it's well worth it.

You should contact your individual Support Enforcement Officer.  They will work with you.  I was in contact with mine when I was layed off several times.  He was very reasonable when I explained my lack of work situation to him.  Establishing a good repoire with him/her will help out if you ever get in a monetary bind.

Funny thing is I have had customers stop by my house today and some are calling to ask what they should do. It's kind of a surreal situation but I guess we all relied on each other for a long time now.

Thank you all for the well wishes and good luck to you whirlygirl and the others who are in the same situation.

Use that as a selling point on a job interview.

It's kinda cool that you and they are maintaing contact like that.

Why look for work then if it's looking for you ?
Start your own company.
