This has to be a dupe. But worth it! |

Quoted: After paying many of dollars to go to school, I do agree it does seem a little high. But the demad is there so price increases. That and teachers dont work for free, it takes a lot of money to corrupt the young minds that come through the doors. The reason it is so high is because of .gov involvment with the student loans. Colleges are milking that gravytrain for all it is worth. |

Colleges are milking that gravytrain for all it is worth. Exactly. This is very similar to the housing bubble. Lenders to students basically have little to no risk, so they lend to anyone with a pulse to go to college, artificially increasing demand, and prices. Lenders need to be held responsible for their own loans. This means they will make sound loans or go bankrupt. The result is that demand will return to normal and college prices will decrease. I've read that over the last 30 years college tuition has increased at about 8-9% per year. No way wages have kept up with that. |

I work to maintain a minimal amount of student loans. Most people do not do this anymore. The thought of working and going to school is too hard. It is easier to stand out side of a door and say it should be free than spend that time working or studying. I agree that the cost is out of control, and some schools raise tuition so they can take all the student aid. Maybe a few kids getting into the labor force isn't all bad, get some money set a side and some skill built up then try school in a specific degree. That's is what I had to do, and am still doing. If people don't use the free dependant money then schools would be forced to accommodate the working class and lower tuition to up student enrollment like most tech schools already are doing. We can blame the Government all we want but if as a society we don't use the free hand outs and use our votes so the people in charge don't issue free hand outs, nothing is going to change.
OK, that is my rant for the day. |

They don't spray OWS protesters for stopping traffic and commerce, but spray students for protesting college prices? Something wrong here, all or none. Didn't read the article, did you? Two officers were apparently backed up against a wall, and began using force to keep the students out of the room. Steinman said both officers used pepper spray.

Glad I dropped out of college after 3 semesters now I make more than both my parents and girlfriend and best friend combined. Contracting is great |

Most people - from my personal experience, I can't speak for everyone - don't attend college to "make a lot of money." They go so that - hopefully - they can get a job in a field they will like working in. I met very few students who chose their major based upon expected salary.
If making money were the only objective, most people would just go sell cars, real estate, or something similar. People in the business world brag about how much money they make. Other professionals, like cops, college professors, scientists, psychologists, etc., never set out to get rich. |

I guess i'm not paying enough then, i'm still a right-wing gun nut despite the efforts of 6/7 of my professors. The last one on the other hand talks about guns, tends to quote a lot of Scalia, and point out how the government is corrupt and fails to uphold our constitution. He would fit right in here. |

Actions have consequences.
Liberals live their lives doing whatever they want, then they blame others for the consequences. That's one of the reasons our country is bankrupt. Liberals expecting the government to make their problems go away with money. I paid for my college, these hippies can STFU. |

Couldn't have anything to do with the Gov't taking over the Student Loan process that's for sure. I've always been assured Gov't makes things cheaper and more efficient than the free market can provide.

Chanting: "No cuts, no fees! Education should be free!" Well...it's pretty much announcing to the entire world that you're too fucking stupid to be in college. I hate Socialism with a seething hatred that spews from my pores. However when I look at the amount of social spending we put into completely uneducated and unproductive leeches, I do think that if college was free it would at least be a better way for that money to be spent. But nothing worth having is free so, I don't want free college either. Just voicing a thought. |

Professors get paid a lot more, and students pay a TON more, yet a lot of professors dont help you at all. In my three engineering classes this semester (all same professor) I'm better off staying at home and reading the book a couple times instead of going to class to watch the professor do 1-2 sample problems that he realizes he fucked up the whole thing at the end of class, making copying down what he does worthless. Doesnt help that every class starts with a 5 point quiz on what he is about to "explain". |

No, they sprayed them when they tried to rush into a crowed room - they had already forced the security guards against a wall. They did not get sprayed for protesting. They got sprayed for creating a dangerous situation

Doesnt help that every class starts with a 5 point quiz on what he is about to "explain". I don't know your situation or professor. You may be completely justified in your resentment. If so, you should bring it up with him and, if that fails, talk to your dean. But, having completed an undergrad engineering program and having experience at the graduate level myself, I can tell you that much of what you are seeing is most likely completely normal. You don't go to class to learn the course material. You go to class to learn what you need to be studying in order to learn the course material. That's different for everyone, and it's not covered in any syllabus. An hour in front of your professor should leave you with ideas of about half a dozen sources you should consult. Then you go to the library, find them, and read them. Successful students are the ones that read constantly. If you find yourself with extra time (time spent sleeping counts as extra), and you're still struggling in a course, then you need to be using that time to fix your problem. To bring this back on topic... I never had time to go protest something and attack campus cops. |

Tuition for Kalamazoo college is almost $44,000 per year, plus $1,500 per semester for a meal plan! Seems outrageous, but it was inevitable. There seems to be an unlimited amount of money available through student loans. There also seems to be an unlimited amount of people willing to at least try college and pay those ridiculous fees. Now government funding is running out and the students are having to pay those fees themselves, or so it seems from the article. BTW K college is private and accepts no funding from the gov, so I see how that number is so high. Still, seeing that number is like getting hit square in the face with a baseball bat. |

I'd be willing to bet that a large majority of these protesters either aren't enrolled at the school or if they are, won't graduate. Kids in college who are serious about learning and getting a degree don't engage in this bullshit. Yeah, but there's always the School of Liberal Arts. |

Yep, I imagine pursuing a degree in something like Women's Studies leaves a lot of free time to devote to protesting, being a smelly hippie, etc. |
