I am starting to get a little worried....I am 42, and starting to forget things. Today's adventure...I forgot my ATM PIN...same one I have used for about 4 yrs
Also went to the store knowing I needed trash bags, dishwasher soap.....I got pizza rolls and soda...

Seriously, this is just an example of shit from what seems like a month worth of brain farts. Either I am starting the early stages of Alzheimer's
or this is Alcohol related. I know that drinking can make you forget shit too. {When sober} I typically drink a 12 pack a week {weekend warrior}

Wait....what was I saying?

Seriously, this is starting to bug me

Memory loss is one of three signs of old age, I don't remember what the other two are.

Stress, lack of sleep, drug use, distraction, AADD, etc.
Lots of factors in poor memory. The big one is sleep.

That said, and just to frighten you, the plaques that form in your brain and cause Alzheimer's symptoms later in life start accumulating in your 30's.
People with the genetic inclination for the disease may become symptomatic early, like in their 40's.

Just thought you'd like to know.

Is Alzheimer's a hereditary thing? As far as I know, nobody in my family had it....this is seriously starting to bug me. It's really strange...
I am a musician in a cover band, I have played HUNDREDS of songs, never used a "cheat sheet". It might take me 3-4 sec. into the song for
it to come back to me, but after that..I have NO prob. remembering every song, note for note.

I also remember my childhood address and phone number, as well as friends numbers...I can't remember my wifes cell number to save my life

You, like me, suffer from C.R.S syndrome...

CAN'T REMEMBER SHIT.

I cannot diagnose.  But, I can offer a helpful hint:

You might find it really helpful to  keep one of those little  notebooks in shirt pocket,  writing things down helps  to  imprint in your memory.
Even if you dont have to refer back to your notes, it may help to have the back up.
Blood pressure and cholesterol   meds  can really fuck with ya as well.

Sometimes low testosterone can cause it so you may want to get tested. If they put you on the gel your wife/gf is either going to very happy or very sad depending on her libido.

Seriously, there's some truth to "Senior Moments". That's not Alzheimers.

We all for get where we put the car keys; that's normal. Become concerned when you forget what the car keys are for.

LOL, I seriously doubt that a 12-pack a WEEK is gonna hurt you.

Good luck finding the real cause, though.

Yes, Alzheimer's is heritable. One gene gives it to you, one from both parents gives you the early and severe form.

If you're a musician, it might be the weed.
Short term memory problems on the ill.

My mother and her mother both had Alzheimer's. I'm not looking forward to getting old.

Thankfully my dads side all dies early so maybe I'll drop dead before it can get too bad.

Lol, I haven't touched pot since high school. Even then it wasn't my "thing"...I might have smoked it 5-6 times at the most.

You should be tested for onset Alzheimer's, there are thing you can do to limit the impact and drugs you can take, but if you wait.

Go to a doctor.

Memory loss can be symptom of many things besides Alzheimer's.

Hypothyroidism, for one.

I'll be 51 this summer. I have the same thing you described. Sometimes I can't remember a word I use a lot. I have to think about it for awhile, and sometimes it comes to me sometimes it doesn't.

Don't feel bad. One day I completely forgot my PIN for my ATM card in my mid 20s. I think it had to do with the fact that I had forgotten the pin itself but had muscle memory to keep using it. Then one day, I forgot the muscle memory to punch in the correct numbers. I had to go get a new PIN because I locked myself out of my debit card's pin function.

Sleep and stress are the biggest ones - I can't function half as well when I'm tired.  Also dehydration can mess with your head.  Combine the three and you can become the veritable cabbage.

There will have been loads of times in your life where you have done the same thing and kicked yourself, I just think you get to a certain mid-life age and the dawning realisation that you are not immortal, coupled with the anxiety that every damned ache pain and hiccup is a friggin' tumour and you have the recipe for a brain fart.

And no - you probably don;t have a brain tumour either.

Your brain needs exercise like your physical body.  TV and internet will turn it to mush.  Take some college classes, play sudoko, NYT crossword, Words With Friends and read read read read.

your brain is like a tabletop with checkers on it.
once full, any new checker bumps another checker off the table and on to the floor.

what the hell are we talking about, anyway?

I would get checked next time you go to the doc - just discuss it with him.

Also, you may have the "full bucket" syndrome.  Once the bucket is full, you pour in another few ounces and the same amount is going to slop out the other side.

Thats your brain and memory full of stuff and more coming in all the time.  There is only so much rest, gingko and caffine a person can get!
