request for help....

my back-up sump pump (Basement Watchdog just like this) hasn't been working.

It has a check valve (like this) before it gos to a 45 degree and meets the main pump, where it shares the same pipe going out.

The check valve had an issue when they first installed it which was resolved by drilling a small hole into the bottom which serves as a relief so the valve doesn't get stuck. Worked fine for a while.

Right now... the back-up pump runs, there is water shooting out of the relief hole, but it doesn't pump out water from the sump. I know because the water coming in fills it up while it's pumping. I don't think it's an output issue because it used to do the job. It's a steady flow coming in but not so much that it shouldn't be able to bring the level down.

It almost feels like there is something moving through the pipes while it's pumping but it doesn't drain the crock.

Would this be a check-valve issue still, or something else entirely?

FWIW, I'm not looking for advice on new systems, this is what I have... as much as I'd like a water-powered back-up, it's not in the cards.
