Great show. This quote always reminded me of GD: That Guy: There are two kinds of people: sheep and sharks. Anyone who is a sheep is fired. Who is a sheep? Dr. Zoidberg: Errr, excuse me... which is the one people like to hug? That Guy: Gutsy question. You're a shark. Sharks are winners, and they don't look back because they have no necks. Necks are for sheep. |

Only TV cartoon that I can think of that's made me tear up...from both laughing and being sad. The episode where they find Fry's old dog fossilzed and it flashes back to 1999...poor pup Haven't been interested in watching one since -something about them making a joke out of it and the main character's "he didn't find a way to pop into the future with me so -F- him" attitude. |

Wait. What? Maybe you're talking about a different episode? As I recall it; there was one where the main character comes across the remains of his dog, and considers having him cloned ~reanimated, but weighs his impression and decides against it because somehow or another he wasn't a "good" dog in the end. The end of the episode is a flashback to the real events, of the dog waiting alone for the rest of its life through rain and snow at the place he last saw Fry. Maybe I missed something about the main character's attitude, but it didn't sit well with me or my wife ~we both sort of looked at each other and haven't wanted to see the show again.

Uhh, yeah, you totally missed it. He decided against it because he thought (due to his age when he died) that he had lived a long and happy life with someone else. Throughout the series, Fry was always 'ignored' by everyone in his life...he thought his dog would do the same. Of course if you watch the rest of the series & the movies you'd know how it *really* turns out |

They actually retconned that. In the first movie "benders big score" Fry travels back to the past and in a branching timeline lives there quite happily taking care of the dog for many years until its death. |

IIRC The reason they decided not to reanimate/clone him was because the professor couldn't promise fry that scruffy would be the same dog as he was when fry left. While he would have been, they had no way of knowing that. |

That's awesome, I did read it in his voice in my head. |

While he would have been, they had no way of knowing that. No. it was because Fry found out the dog had lived to an old age, and presuming that he'd had a happy life with another owner he thought it would be selfish to reanimate him. The fact that the complete opposite is what had happened is what made it tragic. |

"As the candy hearts poured into the fiery quasar, a wonderous thing
happened, why not? They vaporized into a mystical love radiation that spread across the universe, destroying many, many planets - including two gangster planets and a cowboy world. But one planet was exactly the right distance to see the romantic rays, but not be destroyed by them - Earth. So all over the world, couples stood together in joy. And me, Zoidberg! And no one could've been happier, unless it would've also been Valentine's Day. What? It was? Hooray!" -Zoidberg |
