I get around 20 calls a day by these jerks.
I'm on the "no call list", but I think I aggravated the problem by signing up.

The answer machine runs all day long!

I don't get many but when I do get one, I'll waste as much of their time as possible, then, just when they think the have a fish, I'll tell them I've been wasting their time and wasn't ever planning to buy their product or service. That usually gets a pissed off hang up.

We just recently got a home phone with the "Tripple Play" from Comcast.

We get a few calls a day.

Depends...

Say suggestive things like... 'ohhh..can you talk a little slower.. I really love your voice', followed by some moaning....

Tell them you want to buy whatever is they're selling, and one for all your friends too, but then say you have someone calling in on the other line....and just put them on hold....forever..

Ask them how they got 'this number', loudly announce to 'bob' (or whomever) to start a trace to find out where the call is coming from, grill them for information, where they work, where they live, etc etc. acting like they called some super secret gov't building.

Talk to them lower, and lower , and lower, until you're finally whispering...when they say they're having a hard time hearing you, telll them to turn their volume up, when they say 'its all the way up' or whatever, yell at the top of your lungs.......

Some of the crazy shit I used to do...... I was also a big fan of the Jerky Boys, so I used them as inspiration.

I seem to be getting mostly the NRA ones, asking for more $$$.  Thank goodness for caller ID.

I believe that if you file a complaint, they are subject to a federal fine.   Whether this actually happens, I have no idea.   I bought some wine and a couple of other things from online vendors in recent months and one of the bastards sold my phone number, email and address to insurance companies, Publisher's Clearing House and several others.   Now I am getting annoying calls periodically on my unlisted phone number and Publisher's Clearing House even took it upon themselves to send my some cheap merchandise that I never ordered and bill me for it.

Yes, I know what it is like to have your message file filled up with bullshit when you come home at the end of the day.

Lets get rid of that industry so we can put more into the unemployed ranks. I would rather see someone with a job than not. You guys whining about this have caller ID right? Dont answer the phone, problem solved.

This, but tell them to wait a second, you're going to try something on your end.  Put your ear pro on, then come back on the line, ask them if they can hear you any better, then blow a Storm Whistle next to the phone with all you've got.

They don't bother me any more.

Do not call means exactly that, there is a reason the industry is almost universally hated and loathed save for those who are stuck working in it. Now get thee back to the boiler room from whence you came.

Its very easy to deal with them if you're on the do not call list. As soon as they begin their script, stop them, tell them you are on the no call list, tell them to remove your number from their database and that if your caller id so much as shows their number again you'll be filing a complaint with the FCC. They will stop calling and the FCC does fine them violating it. Especially if you've told them to remove you and they call again.

The only thing worse than a telemarketer, is being one.

I cannot imagine having to do that for a living.  Ugh.

If they're going to break the law to feed their families, there's a lot more money in illegal narcotics.

If I don't recognize the number, I don't answer it...ever.

They can leave a message.

Call telemarketers back. Give their number to a whole platoon. win.

Aren't some of them using bogus numbers, though?  Ever since I switched to AT&T from Verizon, I started getting random calls from numbers that show up as cell phone numbers when I google them.  They end up being for credit card debt, and when I call back and tell them I want my number taken off, they either say "ok" and hang up, or "sorry I can't help you with that."

Still think they're from India, even though the numbers show to be from random places in CA, ND, FL, etc....

Wish I could burn their whole damn building to the ground.

The FCC NEVER goes after these guys. Never. You'd think that at $10K/violation, and the government in the hole, they'd be falling over themselves to get these guys. Just another example of how the gov really doesn't care about the budget.

$10K fine x 100= $1 million. Hell, I'm on the Do Not Call registry and I get 100 calls every month. Free money, Obama!

I'd need a booster to get reliable cell service at Fort Smith.

I can almost always get a line out, but I gotta stand outside on one leg with a coat hanger in my hand to talk for long.

That is the second half of the telemarketer solution:
Terminate your telephone service.

Some of us are required by work to have one and answer it when on call. You MUST be able to be contacted, cell service at the house is somewhat "iffy" and a land line is the only way I can be sure I receive a call.

I know someone who worked as a telemarketer for a short time. He's always extremely nice to them because he knows what having that job is like.

I used to answer the phone in my best "Apu" voice. At least until it was one of my wife's friends instead of a telemarketer.

My brother used to answer the phone and pretend that he had a hearing aid, but the batteries had died. Amazing how loud you can get them to yell.
