If there were one closer to me, I'd likely never walk inside a grocery store again.

Maybe when I'm 74, like some of the younger folks in there, I'll like it more.

What's the draw?

Sysco brand food prepared by half-wit "cooks" isn't a valid answer.

It's OK, Just OK.  If im a a road trip, I'll eat there.

I've never liked it, never seen the appeal other than a gift shop/store inside, and the food is mediocre at best.

Love it.

Hashbrown casserole.

It's where the Golden Corral/Ponder-down-at-the-Rosa go when there's not one nearby. One of the few places I see GOO GOO clusters for sale. Lotsa junk too, mostly made in that exotic land known as China.

Their country-fried steak, taters/gravy, greens and green beans work for me.

+1. This.  You must consider Steak and Shake fine dining.

The worst thing about the West besides California and Oregon is the lack of Cracker Barrels and Waffle Houses.

Never heard of this Steak and Shake, but the Steak part has me interested.

I like it, for my 23rd birthday all i wanted to do was go to a craker barrel because i have never been, everyone else did not want to so we didnt go..... finally when i was 28 and driving from VA to NY i stoped at one. It was worth it :)

+1 - that's my order.

I 'discovered' CB on last summer's vacation while driving from Fla to NC. It's not fine dining, and I don't think anyone would pretend it is. But if the alternative is McD's or Taco Bell, and on the interstate they are often the only alternatives, it looks pretty damn good. My kids love it - food, gift shop, the works - and the service in my experience is efficient and polite, unlike most fast food outlets.

I'll be doing the same trip this summer - already looking forward to CB

I like the food...it's the waiting time in the gift shop so my wife buys stuff that I don't like.
3/4/2012 4:51:36 PM EDT
[#19]
Not terrible, not great.

But I am not waiting an hour or more for it.

Its the most f'ed up thing but about once a year I seriously crave a CB steak and baked potato. Its the only time I ever eat steak that's not cooked at home and even then,I only make steaks maybe 3 times per year and always with a good piece of Brandt beef but I just need one from CB. Maybe I'm an AARP member once a year.

Road trip?  We're hitting it.  It's usually pretty good.  Otherwise, it's just a white glorified IHOP.

Their breakfast menu is pretty good.  Not impressed by their regular menu.

I will eat there if I have to but the food is nothing special. The greens are probably some of the worst I have ever had, gotta be out of a can along with the green beans and the chicken 'n dumplings are bland, I hear people raving about those dishes and you know it's just because they don't know any better (the same way someone will talk great about a Chrysler or GM product, they just have never had anything better).

3/4/2012 5:17:40 PM EDT

I love the place.

I'm just here to read all the hate from those who must be so fun to hang out with.

Love me some Cracker Barrel. I've eaten at many fine restaurants, but have to admit that while I enjoyed them and appreciated them, I have rather parochial tastes.

Going to deal's gap?

The food is good, about the best you will typically find while roaming the interstates.

I fucking destroy pancakes and waffles on sight and love me some bacon, therefore Craker Barrel, IHOP, and Waffle House are all acceptable to me.

While I wouldn't call it "delicious", it's pretty good home style country cooking. Not as good as what you will get in some farm kitchens where the woman of the house is a real woman, but it's the next best thing, mostly.

Haven't you heard? All restaurants serve pre-packaged frozen dinners from sysco. They don't even have ovens. They just microwave it all.

Telling someone who knows/grew up with actual good country cooking how delicious Cracker Barrel is is like telling Italians how great Olive Garden is.
