Goodmoring GD. Does anyone else get chronic reacurring nightmares?

For about the last five or six years  i've been having them. Terrible, gorey, disgusting nightmares
that come and go. Seriously, they couldn't put my mind to film or they'd be arrested. I have a
fairly stable life and don't consider myself unsound upstairs, but its starting to get bad.
I woke up gagging two nights ago. These dreams are that bad.

I don't know what brings them on, but Im starting to think i need to talk to someone about them.
Well, can anyone here shed light on the subject?

Not every night. Usually two or three time a month, but lately its been much more frequent.
No, i don't take sleeping aids. I don't like think idea of pills "curing " what i have.

On a side note, i do drink.

I should say im not an alcoholic, but will get drunk once or twice a week.

There is nothing wrong with you.  You have many dreams at night, you just happen to have one that scares the shit out of you and it wakes you up.

I used to get one where I was being grabbed by a ghost so I couldn't move, scared me.

Told the wife. She said if it were a female ghost with bigs tits and liked to give blowjobs it would be more of a dream for me.

LMAO. Never had said dream again.

Nightmares are usually a fear conscious or unconsciously coming out when you sleep. You need to find out what it is that makes you terrified and deal with it straight on. Then they will go away.

Something's changed in your life, starting about 6 years ago. Sit down and figure out what that was. Marriage? Family? Kids? New job? Death in family?

The fact that they are bad isn't a statement about yourself, it's a reaction to something in your life.

The only thing that would have sort of coincided with the time line is the begining of my new carrier. But in
truth these dreams are not about that at all. They're not even about people i know.
In fact the theme is normally different each time, with the exeption of how consistantly god
awful they are.

Getting drunk once or twice a week, and you don't think you're an alcoholic?

There's about a dozen blood chemistry problems that result from that level of drinking, which may cause nightmares.

However, I suspect that both the nightmares and the drinking are symptoms of a bigger problem you won't admit to, maybe you don't even know what it is.  Like a fishing pole bending when you snag a fish, the solution is not to duct tape a 2x4 to your rod to keep it straight.  The pole bending is not the problem, it is a sign that something beneath the surface needs to be dealt with.

Sign of repressed homosexuality.

Beans being phallic symbols, and your obvious yearning for them.

Try taking a couple weeks off of drinking.

I had one last night about UN soldiers taking our guns away & the trigger pull on my ak47 was like 5000 pounds and I couldn't pull it, them when it finally shot, the bullet came out of the barrel in slow motion & I couldn't hit anything

I found that when I eat pizza before bedtime I have weird dreams.

BTW getting drunk twice a week does not make you an alcoholic. IMHO

I posted this in the sleep paralysis thread:

I get it alot (regards to sleep paralysis), usually when I am extremely tired and fall asleep face up
on top of stress and not sleeping on a regular schedule.  Dunno how to
describe it, but all the affects just add together to produce it.  I
hate that feeling that you need to be in control right now, and your
still stuck in a dream state that is often a nightmare- just fucking
hate that.  When I finally am able to barely move anything at all, or
better yet just expending anything to get anything at all to move, it
all slowly comes back and at the same time you cant yell let alone talk
yet your mind is like "FUCKING HELP ME RIGHT THE FUCK NOW!!!!!" and that
your voice only originates and has sound that is within your own mind
only and then starts to come slowly back from a silent voice that
builds, just horrible not being able to get anything out at first and
the struggle to get anything out at all is one hell of a fight.  Not
only that, but the sleep paralysis nightmare just keeps you thinking
wtf.

thanks for the vote of confidance on the alcoholism thing, i don't think i am either.
I brought up that subject because it is a variable that may be a factor, i don't know.
Honestly, i thought it was fairly normal.
I'm going to omit any alcohol for a week or two and see what happens. I suppose it
can't hurt. I just get the impression these dreams aren't going away any time soon

Alcohol by itself can make you wake up gagging, especially if you went to bed with a full stomach.  Your brain comes up with something nasty as a dream to explain the sensation, and...

All the time. Most of the dreams I have could be considered nightmares, ie. gore, death, weird shit happening. I don't consider them nightmares, just really badass dreams.

havent had nightmares in years dont have a clue why, when i was younger i would have them occasionally
eating late
peanut butter
bananas
are things/foods that cause me to have more vivid dreams but nothing scary closest i have had was waking up to what sounded like someone pounding at my front door in the early am.but after checking it out I think it was probably waking up while the cat playing with something and banging it around.

look at your diet/things that have changed in your life and the alcohol consumption and you will probably find your cause
