So in response to the Koran burning all soldiers in theater now have to be trained (powerpoint of course) on "Proper Handling of Religious Materials."
Just though you'd all like to know. Don't worry everyone, I'm now trained on how not to burn Korans. I wonder if the ANP are getting trained on how to not shoot us in the back. |
|
The politicians who drive such idiocy should really gain some first-hand, up front experience with this particular enemy before taking the apologetic stance and making our warriors the bad guys.
It's a book....it's a symbol....nothing more. I'll never understand people who will commit acts of terror or violence over the perceived desecration of some arbitrary item. Stay safe over there. As a side note, as a guy that will probably never see those lands, I'd love to get a copy of one of those battlefield quaran books.....I'd like to "treat it with respect"

So, is there a PROPER procedure for burning them? What bullshit training. Thank you for your service, OP. |

Not advocating burning of the flag, just trying to point out that just mycause it's not your symbol don't mean it's not a symbol.... |
| I'd like to apologize to the OP and our brothers that are over there dealing with this travesty. I am sorry that our country has elected men and women that will let a defeated enemy conquer a once great nation. I fear for my young sons. They will fight these same battles because we lacked the fortitude to conquer a few fanatics. |

Bring all of our people home, now. Give our people proper rules of engagement, now. I think a good reason the empires of old were so successful for hundreds of years is because they conducted TOTAL warfare on their enemies. We will continue to wallow in half-assed victories and certain defeat if we continue the current "civilized" warfighting policy.

From what I've been hearing on FNC, the Bad Books were burned because they were desecrated by detainees who were using the paper to pass notes to each other. A local "holy man" from the Muslim God Squad was consulted about the issue, and he blessed off on the burning as SOP for destruction of desecrated Korans. Nothing more. It wasn't "accidental", or done with the intent to be disrespectful. It was done with the consent of an Imam under his direct or indirect supervision. But you have to listen real hard to get the real story from the MSM, and that faggot Karzai doesn't seem too eager to set the record straight with those murderous, rioting animals. |

Bring all of our people home, now. We look weak as it is now with the current CiC. Bugging out now because of a few riots will invite even more challenges to our foreign policy in the near and long term. I understand your sentiment, though. Fucking savages. |

Does the training mention that the Saudis routinely burn any unapproved copies of their holy book that come into their country? Are the Afghans or other Muslims protesting that behavior?
Does the training mention that the writing in the religious books that prompted the A-stan burnings is in itself a violation of their rules on how to treat the book? I bet not on either case. |

I'm seeing a grainy video clip playing in my head... The main gate of BAF opens and 150 horse-mounted, saber-wielding soldiers charge on the chanting, rock throwing, flag burning riotous crowd. Skulls are split, rabble is ridden down into the gray, filthy dust of Afghanistan and the remnants of the beaten mass are driven back and dispersed by a follow-on force. Remember the famous, stirring cavalry charges of the first SF guys into Afghanistan, after they hooked up with the Northern Alliance? Combine that with a Cossack resolve and ferocity. http://www.popularmilitary.com/magazine/horseback.jpg It would get compared to the scene in the beginning of Dr Zhivago where the protesters are run down by cavalry, and would be even more of a PR nightmare. |

I think a better training would be, "how to avoid doing stupid shit while in country"
Ya know, little things that might irritate folks that then will kill you. Like burning their religious stuff. Or pissing on their fighters, then taking pics of it. If our guys can't help but enrage the populous, then the mission has failed, and its time to bring everyone home. A single of our guys dying because someone else went full retard and burned their religious books is retarded, tragic, and pathetic. |

They're dying because 1.) the Taliban are exploiting the ignorance of the barbarians, and 2.) Karzai is afraid to tell the masses that the burning was approved by a local religious leader because the books were desecrated. |

My boy just finished his 0311 4 yr hitch, and spent too many days over there like so many. Stupid freaking ROE and barbarians over there! Sorry you have to sit thru "death by powerpoint" for this BS! Either let our boys take care of business or let em come home! Carry on!

You guys need to find the fuck ups who did it int he first place and give thema blanket party. They had gone to an Imam to ask how the best way to destroy these already desecrated Qurans which had pages torn out of them and messages written in them. They followed his instructions for the most part, but had left recognizable pieces. One of the Afghan workers recognized the pieces, and awaaaaaaaay we go. The only mistake was not burning them completely. Not a peep over the prisoners desecrating their US .gov supplied Qurans in the first place, though, is there? |

Bring em home. We never capitalize on our military actions. We let the spoils of war slip through our hands like sand. |

Is there going to be mandatory training on handling of treacherous ANA and ANP personnel? Watch your six and stay safe! Proper handling techniques for ANA/ANP Personnel who shoot US Service Members in the back: - Promptly catch and disarm said ANA/ANP Personnel. - Beat said ANA/ANP Personnel to within an inch of his life. - Proceed to lineup ANA/ANP Personnel against closest hesco and unload one full magazine into said personnel at close range. It's only a matter of time before Obama goes over everytime something like this happens and bows before the leader of whatever country is involved. This PC, politicians running wars/op's is absurd, those suits who never served a day in their lives need to seriously gtfo. |

Next time we need to burn something in that country, I suggest some Canned Sunshine. |

Yeah, I figured there would be hand-holding and distribution of non-flammable Korans involved in the procedure.

I don't agree but their vigor in responding to news of Koran burnings makes more sense now. |
