I have had a Rottweiler for over a year now, they are the most loyal, intelligent, and eager to please dog I have ever owned.  I have had GSD's, Dobbies and labs.  What is GD's opinion on Rott's?

I am just amazed how they want to make sure their owners are protected and safe with their presence.

Ive had rotties before and you summed it up pretty good, but the bullmastiffs I have now blow them out of the water, at least in my experience.

I would love to own one of those,  the rott I own will not let anyone between my wife and I. He is incredibly submissive to my wife and I but is suspect to anyone who has not been properly greeted.

I have had several through the years. My current female Rott and my 16 month old son are best friends. I know she would give her life for him and would let him eat from her dog bowl if he wanted to. I love the breed and will ALWAYS have at least one Rottie in my family. I have another one that I have had since the day he was born. The best behaved dog I know, and most loyal to me. He is almost 13 and has had diabetes for 7 years. He isn't long for the planet but still eats and loves to be loved on. When that day comes a part of my heart will go with him.

I know what you mean....I have never felt the kind of affection I fell for my Rott.  He has been the most affectionate dog I have ever owned.  He always needs to be touching me and I have no doubt he would gladly give his life for my wife and I.

Had one. I loved that dog even though she was the biggest pain in the ass ever.

Extremely loyal, noble, smart and robust breed but they are incredibly dangerous without the proper socialization and direction, from their loving master.

With that said, I feel they are among the greatest of breeds, right along with an English bloodline Labrador, of which we also have raised.

FWIW, my family has raised and owned German bloodline Rotties for the last 20+ years.

Yes they are territorial animals, but it appears they don't suffer from the breeding problems many other breeds have.

I like there subtle nature...my GSD will go apeshit over the mail man, my Rott will wait at the side of the door, waiting in ambush.  Or if a stranger arrives my GSD will pace but my Rott will find a position in between the stranger and I and patiently wait.

I have had the all three you mentioned, and by far I found my Rotties to be the most dense dumb animals on the planet.  Loyal and loving and eager to please, absolutely.  Intelligent?  Ha......

i grew up with one, 13.5 years. He was the best dog I've seen in a long time. Loyal, super protective, loving, goofy, smart as hell.

I agree on them being a bit more subtle than other breeds. He tended not to go apeshit around doorbells and strangers. He kept a calm presence. He was never scared of anything, he'd be the first to charge into something.

I've gone the rescue route with my dogs now. I love the idea of having a full bred rottie around, maybe next time I'll work with a rottie rescue and give a good fella a good home.
