Didn't this place have a problem not to long ago? The company, not the place. A couple years ago a diver was killed underwater. And before that a worker fell and drowned in the bottom of a tank/vessel. I've worked at Tessoro, Shell and Conoco. BP seems to have the tightest ship when it comes to safety I was really surprised to hear about todays events. I would have suspected it to be Conoco. . |

UPDATE 4:55 p.m.: A BP spokesman said there were no injuries from this afternoon’s fire, and all employees and contractors are accounted for. Firefighters extinguished the blaze 90 minutes after it started.

Hmmmm....So, if the other thread was correct, that gets us down to 1 operating refinery for the CONUS. Correct?!?!?!?!?
It seems to me that something needs to be done about our disappearing refineries. It has been said they are too expensive for the big boys to operate on a decent profit margin. So, what is it going to be like when we have to import refined products? Let's say a few of the diesel elec. quiet subs (german built, iran operated) sink a few refined products tankers in the gulf or off the coast. Or lets say a few Hezbullah sappers make it through our heavily defended southern border security and take out the last refinery. How does that play out in the U.S.? I suppose the US military has contracts for refined products for their navy, air force, tanks, helicopters, etc. with "conflict" RoP ruled countries. So, they are not reliant on US domestic sources. Anyway, this is starting to look a little uncomfortable from the US position on the world geo-political stage. |

Just talked to a buddy of mine that was working today. He said he was across the street from the crude
when it burst into flames. Said he was getting the fuck out even before the alarms went off Heard on the radio, in plant radios, that it had to do with a pump. We had no scaffold builders in the unit at the time. Other units depend on the crude unit so they can continue operation. Which means the crude will have to be rebuilt asap for continued operation of the refinery. Needs to be investigated then rebuilt. May be a while before I get back to work. Thats all I have. |
