| I have to walk to get my mail. Its about a 1 minute door to door walk in a neighborhood that hasn't had violent crime in 5 years. Should I CCW? |

I CCW to take my trash out. I also CCW to sit on my couch, cook dinner, read arfcom, etc. If I'm home, I have a pistol on my hip. This plus mowing the lawn, going to church, etc etc. I make a concerted effort to be able to protect myself at all times. There's about 40 feet that I would be exposed, and there are no hiding places on the trip. I always stay yellow, but don't CCW that much. |

Its hot enough to be a pain and I've broken several cell phones from dropping them / smashing them into things while I work. I'd rather not take that chance with a loaded gun personally. As to checking the mail, If I were already carrying then I would continue to do so, but would probably not get a gun out and load up special just for that. |

I usually fast rope down to the mail box and have a convoy waiting on standby by to exfil when I pick up my mail. What other force protection do you have in place? I wouldn't want to get hurt at all. Sniper overwatch? Usually have CAS on standby as well. Sniper overwatch is mandatory when I go out to feed the dogs. |

I think he is more worried of it going off. But with a good holster, that isn't going to happen. For the OP- I doubt I would bother to carry just for a 40 ft exposed to get the mail in a safe neighborhood, but since I generally carrying all the time I would be. If for some reason I wasn't then, I wouldn't holster up just to get the mail. |

<snip> what kind of gun is gonna break by dropping it or smashing it? You're right, there are absolutely no parts on any guns that would not like being dropped from the top of a ladder. Its also not like wearing a gun would make climbing said ladder with all the tools and supplies I need to fix whatever I'm working on harder or make moving around freely while I'm trying to work more difficult. |

I live in a decently nice area of southeast Houston, and we've had home invasions, murders, and burglaries all within the last 3 months, all within a half mile of my house. Fifteen months ago some first-time dirt bag tried to break into my house and was arrested in my driveway by my HPD officer neighbor. If you look at southwest Houston or east Houston, it's much MUCH worse than it is here. For fucks sake, Harris County Sheriff's deputies had a shootout with Zetas in north Houston a few months ago. If I'm dressed, I'm armed. If I'm not dressed, there's a gun within 20 feet of anywhere I sit in my house. If I'm working from home, the AR15 is next to my desk in the home office. If I'm outside the house I'm armed plus I have a gun in the center console of my car. I had to pull my carry gun in my own god damned driveway when some sleaze ball followed me home from the grocery store and parked at my curb to mad-dog me from their car. |

I have a pistol on me at all times when I'm on my property. I think of it as being prepared. Have you never heard of stories of burglars kicking in someones door while they are home? If that ever happened to me, I would rather be prepared to deal with the situation right fucking then, instead of having to run to a safe to get a firearm. |
