I picked up an a HP mini a couple years ago and now I am having trouble with it. It worked fine for about a year and then the screen cracked. I replaced that and it has been working well for the past year. I was using it this afternoon and when I went to start it back up after having it off for about an hour or so it started with all the normal lights, but, the screen is just blank and not working at all. It has a good charge on it. I did transport it between when I shut it down and when I started back up, however it wasn't bumped or dropped or anything. It does stay on like normal as well. The only two things that seem to be malfunctioning are the screen and the wireless connection (there is a small light to tell you when that is on).

Any ideas about what the issue could be?

ETA: Model is HP Mini 210 1084NR

FIXED: took it apart and discovered the connection from the cpu to the monitor had come loose. all is well...for now..

Plug it into an external monitor to see what it's doing.

did that. nothing showed up on the other monitor. It didn't seem like the monitor was getting a signal.

If there is a keyboard command that makes it shift between LCD and external monitor, try that a couple of times.  On Dell's it's Fn + F8, don't know about HP.

Also, shut it down and trying booting it up without the battery in it.

Crack it open and check the connections.

If it doesn't sound like it's booting as normal I think you may have a dud. You can try taking it apart and reseating everything you can.
That might do it.

Best to save up for a new laptop. Take out the old hard drive and stick it in a $7 USB enclosure to get your files off of it.

I put it in hibernation mode almost always and it was in hibernation mode before. Im not sure if that makes a difference.

When you say "the screen cracked." are you saying that it was just sitting there and all at once it cracked, or is there more to the story?

It could date back to that incident.

It's not POST'ing and that's the step before coming out of hibernate(or booting anything for that matter).

I'd buy a new laptop if I was you cause even if you get this one fixed something else will come up next year.

shine a flashlight on the screen and see if you can make out anything. your lamp or inverter may be bad
