Harlan Ellison wrote a short story called "Laugh Track" about a woman whose laugh was so specific that people instantly could pick her out of a crowd. After she died, one of her relatives heard her on some canned laughter and realized that it had trapped her soul. The canned, unfunny laughter in that clip reminds me of soulcrushing unfunniness. |
