Well, I've almost done it. Day three and I'm still getting cravings, but trying to stay busy at work and with the wife and kids. Trying to keep occupied. I started smoking when I was 17 and I just turned 31.

14 years at about a pack a day. What a fuckin' dipshit. That's a whole lotta guns...

I quit almost six months ago.

Its been a tough road, especially since the wife still smokes. But the simple answer is: Just dont do it. Dont touch it. If you feel like smoking, go buy a ice cream cone instead. Its way cheaper, and almost as satisfying.

17 weeks for me this Friday.

Keep it up!

I feel better, don't stink, hell more money in my pocket.

I figure:

$6 / pack x 5 =  $30 per week x 17 weeks = $510

I was about the same as you OP. Quit at around 25 though. It was weird, I just started to hang around people that didn't smoke and weened off of them. A pack would last longer and longer until I had a pack of smokes that I couldn't remember when I bought it.

Anyway, good for you! Just take it one day at a time, eventually you'll have months, then years.

I recently dreamed I had a dip of Copenhagen after being free of it for 15 years. It tasted good.

Cigarettes were easy for me to quit, the smell of them alone.  Cope was a bitch to quit. There are times when I still crave it.

I quit drinking - the Dr. said that after 10 days the craving would be gone.
I quit smoking, the Dr. said that after 10 years the craving would still come and go.

I quit both at the same time.  It takes focus and will power to turn away from the voice in the back of your mind.

Keep at it and take it a day at a time.

You can do it.

I quit cold turkey 2 years ago after smoking for 23 years.

It is the best thing I ever did for myself and you will breathe easier, smell better, and feel better.

Good luck brother!

My Doc keeps offering to give me Chantix when I finally decide that I want to quit the cigs (or, in his words, "Ya know, I've got pills for that...").

The Doc then admitted to me that he used to be a smoker, but quit 15 years ago. I asked him if he missed it. He said, "Every day. In fact, between me and you, when I retire I'll probably start smoking again....."
