Just had a girl I know ask me "What's wrong with socialism?" and then try to justify it.
Too which I replied... "...Well...Bye." Not even worth my fucking time since I only ever talk to her online. No impact on my day-to-day life. Blocked. Later, bitch. I fucking hate, hate, hate liberals.

I reached the point where I really don't care about them anymore. I'd rather have 2-3 good, solid, tight friendships with people who I know see what is happening, then revel in a flowery world of make-believe bullshit that by giving the government more power to tell us how to live our lives that everything will be better. Fuck, I'm inspired to buy more ammo. |
| Politics and friends don't mix that well. Its really sad that so many parties are ripping this country to pieces. We're capable of such amazing things. People are pretty damn awesome. We're also pretty damn pathetic. Whether they be conservatives, liberals, libertarian, etc, etc etc. All parties are guilty of madness. |

I would have had the argument. When you walk away, they assume they've won. Here's a few quick thoughts:
The principles of socialism go against human nature and is doomed to failure as has been proven over and over again. Socialism, in the real world, makes it easier to be poor in the short term, which makes more poor people. Eventually, there aren't enough producers and entrepreneurs left to cover the cost of maintaining the poor people. Socialism is a dis-incentive to progress, productivity and investment. Therefore, over time, it reduces everyone's quality of life. The people who are in charge of wealth redistribution inevitably become corrupted and a relatively few people become disproportionally powerful and wealthy. |

It's not her fault. This is an actual exchange from my American History 2 course last night (discussing radical political ideologies): Professor: Socialism is where the government provides the people with everything they need. Student: Who decides what the people need? Professor: The people do. We have a capitalist system in America, but you can't have capitalism without a little socialism, just like you can't have communism without a little capitalism...as the Chinese found out. People aren't being taught what socialism and communism are so it's no surprise that they don't understand why they are bad. But the coin has two sides. Conservatives who are constantly decrying everything as socialism and communism don't know what socialism and communism are either. |

If you're given everything you "need", you don't need to strive to be better, or do better. You won't get anything extra out of it. Incentive is a powerful motivation that has driven innovation and advancement. Second, if you're able bodied, you'd be forced to work - "From each according to his ability..." I have a friend that is mostly reasonable. She lives her own life like a conservative, but is a total libtard at heart. She knows in her heart that socialism doesn't work, but she refuses to believe it in her mind. Her idea is that everone should have their needs met, no matter what the cost. Even though she knows that's not at all possible, she truly believes that socialism would make the world a better place. I have come to the conclusion that her brain is broken. I will not argue with her any more

I explained that America is pioneering in a number of amazing ways, and it took people that gave a shit about living in a better world to make it happen. The less people care, the less amazing the world is. It's easier to sit back and say "Yeah, I deserve to get paid" and receive a check from the .gov than to say, "I need to bust my ass to make [whatever] work" or "...change/improve [whatever]." It diminishes the will of society to create and innovate, and, from my POV, slowly and insidiously becomes the apparent norm, so that the people who DO choose to excel and achieve something stand out, and often not in a good way. I explained to her that this could very easily lead to the haves/have-nots. Not much of this sinks in with her. We've talked in the past, but she's the artsy-fartsy type who would rather praise Obama but complain about the government and corporations, while using ADOBE photoshop on her APPLE powerbook (oh, the irony) ,and be content with the whole "Well, if it makes us all equal, then it's really a GOOD thing" mentality. I'm not an expert in the details, but I do know I'm right. |
