[ARCHIVED THREAD] - I hate Bass Pro Shops (Page 1 of 2)

| I stopped by Bass Pro this evening in the Chicago area to pick up some powder and primers. I know it is definitely not the cheapest place to buy it, but I was in town on business and figured I could at least avoid paying hazmat. They refused to sell me primers because I don't have a FOID card. I explained to the guy that I am not an Illinois resident so no FOID. I thought out-of-staters were exempt from needing a FOID in Illinois. Can I really not buy this in Illinois or was this guy just jealous I live in a state that is not a broke socialist regime? |
| I was at one yesterday getting a stupid sticker for my SIL. Sticker was 6.29. The credit card reader wasn't working. So she manually entered it in. Then had to take a carbon copy. Then fill some shit out by hand. I was like for fucks sake this really needs to take 10 minutes?. I doubt AMEX is going to back out of a 6 buck charge....I try to stay out of thereupon |

You don't need a FOID to purchase ammo if you are an out of stater. I'm from Iowa and took a job in Illinois. Its a store policy. Walmart will do the same thing. It took me awhile to finally get a FOID. I only did it because I finally found some IL gun stores that are worth a shit. Before that, I bought plenty of ammo in IL with a IA drivers licence. |

OOOOooooooOOOOOOoooooooHHHHHHhhhhhhh, *claps hands and jumps up and down*
I've been waiting to do a "Bass Pro Sucks Big Hairy Balls" thread for a while, but I'll just jump into this one!!! Not only do they price their stuff like it's made out of 24k gold, but the sheer inability to speak to somebody at the gun counter without first taking a number is a HUGE soul crusher. They have piss-poor selection for anything accessory wise, and good luck if you need any mounting systems for a 30mm scope! I sat back by the rings/bases section scouring through everything they had, looking for a one piece multi slot rail for a Remington 700 SA, and 30mm rings to go along with it, while FIVE employees sat around and BS'd with each other. Not ONCE was I asked if I needed help finding anything, and not ONCE was I even acknowledged. That's not the only time it's happened, either––I'm sure they see their fair share of tire kickers and mouth breathers, but SHIT, it's your JOB to help customers. At least ask how they're doing or if they are looking for something specific! I used to work retail guns, and I can without a doubt say that they are truly an abomination as far as a firearms retail establishment is concerned. That being said; however, they continue to get my money because of their range. I love having a rifle tube all to myself, and the location can't be beat (5 minutes away). PLUS, they have a brewery that serves some purt good beer!!!!! |

I use Bass Pro when I need to. I tend to already know what I'm going to get, how much it costs and if they have it before I go there. That saves a lot of headache.
If I go into a place blind and get dissappointed, I take some of the heat for that and punish myself with 20 lashes from a cat-o-nine tails. |

I've been to Bass Pro once. I got a gift certificate and wanted to pick up some .22 ammo. They don't really have much in the way of ammunition, and don't carry Federal bulk at all. I still have the gift certificate because I couldn't find anything to buy. Send it to me. I haven't bought anything at Bass Pro since...Saturday. My BIL was using my press to reload some .357 Maximum, and he had the wrong powder. Picked me up some HIGH END ammo. Box of .25ACP. |
|
In the Bass Pro down here, if you buy a gun they take your money and then you wait outside the store and a manager brings the gun out to you in the street in front of the store.
You can then turn right around and walk back into the store and shoot the gun at their range. It's idiotic. |
|
I go there when I go to my dentist, cause it's right there. I never buy anything except reloading supplies, because their prices are in the ball park with ordering, once you pay shipping. a buck or two more to have it in my hand...
Had to laugh this last trip, the one in Orlando now has a selection of BLACK RIFLES and a whole aisle of accessories, Magpul, Tapco, CAA, cans of Lake City Ammo, Even 30 nrnd mags for the dreaded SKS! After years of hoity-doity FUDD " we don't sell that crap" attitude, they have succumbed to the financial reality that they were missing the money boat.. |
| I love Bass Pro. I'll probably be going there in 2 days. The store is awesome, they have everything from cheap products to high end stuff, and there is always some new cool thing to look at. When it comes to fishing tackle that store is hard to beat, at least when it comes to having things in stock that you can actually look at. |
|
Maybe it's because most of the gun shops around here don't stock as much but the Bass Pro here probably has the best selection of accessories and ammo. Some of their handgun ammo is priced very well. I bought a USP and a red box Sig 226 there-I way overpaid for the USP but stole the 226. All in all, haven't had to deal with the derp at the other BPS. |

I was at my range yesterday and could have purchased all the primers and powder I wanted. No hazmat no card only cash. WTF is a FOID? FOID is a "Firearms Owner Identification Card." I forgot to mention and to be sure. Fuck that Illinois Governor Quinn Fuck that stupid bitch Illinois attorney general Lisa Madigan |
|
Last time I tried to go to Bass Pro, I was kicked out for not adhering to the strict dress code. Apparently, shaved head, goatee, H-D cutoff t-shirt, Oakleys on the back of aforementioned shaved head and awesome "tribal" tattoo is a requirement. Also, I had actual cargo in the bed of my pick-up, which immediately raised suspicion. Tough crowd.

Cabelas isn't really any better, especially on gun prices.
I go to Cabelas for fishing gear about once every two months. Sometime I might buy some ammo, but I don't even bother with the gun counter. Ever since I saw the $500 Romanian M-44 that looked like it had been run over by a tank, I've avoided that area of the store. |

I hear you OP.
I can't stand the place either. I fish a lot. EVERY time I go in the place they are OUT of the particular lure/hook/weight/line/etc I went there to get. Hell with'em! I won't even go over by the gun counter. I can feel the Herp/Derp from across the store. |
