I hate rap music.  Whenever there's rap on television or on the radio, my wife hides all my guns.  I swear the very thought of rap music drives me almost to the point of madness.

What I want to know is who was originally responsible for rap and how did it get started?  I want to know because if time travel is ever possible I want to go back in time and kill the *&%@#!$ bastard who dreamed it all up.

I don't like it either so I........don't listen to it.

Edited..let me go with this:

Today we have tattoo bashing and also now rap music bashing.

ARFCOM needs a new hobby. I am glad no one has anything to worry about except what people do to their own bodies and the music they enjoy.

Trust me over here it's on all the radio stations.  That is with the sole exception of the CBC.  And I can't listen to the Communist Broadcast Corporation because that's even worse.

It started when it became socially acceptable for white's to listen to a 'black' style of music. Better go kill Elvis, he started it

It started, I believe, in the mid to late eighties. Even though most modern rap comes from Atlanta or Los Angeles, most people agree that rap really got it's start in West Philadelphia, born and raised, on the playground is where I spent most of my days. Chillin out max and refreshin all cool and all shootin some b-ball outside of the school. When a couple of guys who were up to no good, started making trouble in my neighborhood. I got in one little fight and my mom got scared and said you're moving with you auntie and uncle in Bel Aire!

Sugar Hill Gang is credited with being the first rap artists, but they were merely the first to be successful and sell records.

At some point, someone figured out that talking over top of a 909 drum machine was easier than learning to play music, and viola.

There is some rap I like, but it's very few and far between. Mostly, it's lazy and uninspired dreck from a culture I don't admire or respect...and that's including the people who share my skin color.

Modern rap can be traced to the work of Gil Scott-Heron in the late '60s and early '70s.

Rap was around in the early to late 70's but was pretty much underground until Debra Harry AKA Blondie released Rapture in 1981 and put rap in top 40.  So the person responsible for making rap mainstream is a white woman.

I'm very stable.  I can endure any insult with the greatest of patience.  But something about rap music brings out the worst in me.  And I have to wonder if it is just me.

Why are all the rappers shooting each other?  ( Not that I mind or it's a bad thing)  But why?

Is there something in this raucous, hellish, brutish, cacophony that brings out the beast within?

The 1977 New York blackout is what the old school guys out of NYC was the reason rap came to be.

They looted so much stereo gear they had to learn how to use it.

I bet most people don't like rap, they just "like" it to be rebellious, apologist or trying to be "cool" like all their other moronic "friends".

Pretty similar vibe to the coffeehouse beat poets.  It's not exactly a tricky concept for parallel development.
