We are looking to buy a house this year, and we must have a fence, at least around the backyard.  Some houses dont have them, any rough estimates on what one costs?

We would need 5-6ft and solid enough to keep a dog in. I just have no clue what they cost....chain link, wood, stone, etc. Any rough estimates?

Cool story bro.

I'd go white vinyl.

Are you doing the work yourself?

I just did about 180' of black aluminum fencing at my house last summer and it was probably a $2500-3000 do-it-yourself job. Not hard to do, but you will need a post hole digger and an extra set of hands would help a lot. I got my fence panels from Menards on sale last fall. A comparable fence, professionally installed would be at LEAST twice as much.

What kind and who does the labor?  If you pay someone to install the fence, expect an astronomical price for what will be a very short amount of time.  The labor markup on a fence job is more than us electricians get, and it ain't exactly skilled labor.

I got quotes up to $20k for my 4' aluminum fence, the material was $6k at around $60/section (might have been $80, don't recall).  My friend and I knocked it out in a single weekend with the mini skid and auger.

For a 6' vinyl, you can find prices anywhere.  They are VERY consistent.   A 6' section of white vinyl will run you about $130, so every 6' is $130 plus concrete and if you need to rent an auger.

I've built two simple wood slat fences, that were around 70-100' long.  It's easy to do yourself, easier with a group of buddies, especially if it's relatively flat.

The price of materials REALLY is dictated by the length of the fence.  Could be a few hundred, could be a thousand or more.
I can tell you that for a simple wood fence, that having a company do it will cost a LOT more than doing it yourself, and not turn out as well.

I suppose I could do it myself, even make up a bunch of sections beforehand (from wood), then rent the hole digger and get one of those small trailers with cement that you can pull behind ur truck.....hmm....

Thanks for the replys so far!

make a jig and prebuild the sections in the garage, use galvanized screws instead of nails/staples.
