I am probably going to be getting a new job with my current company (CSX RR) that requires safety boots.  I'll be in the round house where they work on the locomotives, and I'll be the one ordering, receiving, stocking, and shipping parts.  I'll also be loading flat beds of traction motors, radiators, etc.

I'd rather not spend a ton of money on these boots as the company is supposed to provide some next year (2013).  As long as they're comfortable, available in wide sizes, and oil/slip resistant, they're good.  Basically, I'm not spending $300 on a pair of good Danners.

Whatcha got, Arfcom?

I got tired of buying boots each year, so I went custom with Wesco's.  They are also rebuildable.  But  they are expensive.  I'm happy with them and glad I spent the coin.  Two years and going strong.

Can't disagree here either.  They were a close second for me.  I went with the Wesco's because they are local an fitted my funky feet in the showroom.

Where I work, areas of the floor are steel, and covered with transmission fluid.  Oil / slip resistant boots are essential.  I've been there 12 years, and just bought the lightest, most slip resistant, most comfortable boots I've ever had for $75.  I also walk a mile and a half around the plant every day for lunch, and I love them.

Get a size longer than normal for safety boots.

I get new boots every year from my employer.  I decided to try the Timberland Pro Titans since they come in wider widths, 10EE. (the Titans are just wide to begin with).

They're really light and comfortable, plus I think they go for about $100 a pair.

Wolverine Durashocks are the most comfortable boots I've owned. They cost around $100.

I've worn out three pairs of Red Wings, I won't get another pair.

I've been the cheap route out boots and have sworn never ever ever to do it again. Buy a good pair of boots and your feet will thank you along with your legs, back and shoulders. I really like Chippewa boots but also have always liked Red Wing. Look around online and you might be able to find a good deal on some. Be sure to check retailmenot.com for coupon codes if shopping online. My wife showed me that website and I often find good deals using it.

I personally wear Carhartt boots.  They come in wide sizes and they last for me.  I go through a pair of boots every 2.5 to 3 years.  And for $120 I think they are pretty hard to beat.

The BN buys my boots (I just fill out a form and send it in when I 'buy' the boots from the approved boot store, no money leaves my pocket) and I have to get them from an approved list.

I got new Timberland pros for three years in a row.  Same boots, oil and slip resistant right on the sole.  The first two pairs were great, but the last pair (same boots) were like walking on ball bearings.  The rubber swelled so bad from the oil that it curled the toes upward.  Absolute garbage.  I threw them away after two months and bought the Bates.

Red Wing, most of their good boots are US made.

Thy only buy up to $100. The rest comes out of your check. Split between two pay halves. Don't exaggerate lol.

They use to buy two pairs a year.

I used to wear Red Wings eventually switched to a sporty low top style safety shoe.

Both styles have served me well.  Boots last longer but weigh more.

I did Rockys for years until they went Chinese.

The I did Danners for he last 10 years or so. When my last one were done I didnt feel like driving to Portland to the company store, so I bought local. Red Wings.

My feet hurt me after a couple days on them for the last few months until I am out of them for a day or two. I am going to Portland soon to get another pair of Danners.
FWIW my feet are my life. If they arent happy neither am I. I have never skimped on boots, and I have good happy feet because of it. Until this last pair.

Red Wings are wonderful.  Don't forget lots of decent socks.

A cheap decent type of socks are the Dickie's diabetic socks, actually.  I was told that by an electrician who used to change his socks at lunch and missed the old US GI wool socks.  Well –– he was right.  Cheap, padded, and supportive.
