The 4s and iPad 2 are not jailbreakable yet, supposedly in about a week. All others are currently jailbreakable. A good website for info and updates on JB: http://www.sinfuliphone.com/ Not anymore. Sounds like the exploit they were using can't be publicly released. They're looking for a new exploit to demoing the filesystem. |

You didn't hear this from me but try installious. To the op, I use redsnow like everyone else. My fav thing on my jailbroken iphone is mywi (turns phone into hotspot) and my lock screen called "weather elements". |

I use PwnageTool to jailbreak. I like Redsn0w (which is developed by the same people as PwnageTool), but I don't prefer it's method of doing the jailbreak. It doesn't feel as "clean" to me, and shorts me out of a few mods that I like to do. What I really appreciate about the iPhone jailbreaking community, is the sharing of information. If a group figures out an exploit, they share it with other dev groups. They do not ask for donations (the respected groups anyways, aside from new hardware to find exploits with). They all are very smart, and many of them end up with a good career for their efforts. |

I've used the "free paid apps" to test apps before I buy. I check them out, and if I like them, I buy them. I didn't want to pay $10 for iSnipe (ballistics calc) if it was junk. It was a good app so I bought it. I have an old 3G I jailbroke and unlocked (has a T-Moble sim card) and a 4 that I left factory stock.
You can use RedSn0w (with a zero) to jailbreak AND unlock and iPhone. |

Backup your phone. Do a restore to the fresh 5.0.1 through itunes. Jailbreak with newest redsn0w untethered jailbreak. Enjoy.
edit: just noticed you have a 4s... dunno if that phone has had its untethered jailbreak released yet. if not, id wait. tethered jailbreaks suck. |

They were supposed to release an untethered next week, but they're using illegal code, so won't be releasing it. |
