Educate me arfcom. I've done simple boiling hotdogs in beer before. Learn me something new. |

Take a stout, make a gravey with it and serve with a roast or steak. A German Bock is fantastic in chili, stews or even in burgers. Wheat beers such as a Hefe or White Belgian makes a great spice cake. Do a search, there's a whole culinary movement around cooking with and paring food with beer.
ETA....Spent grains, (grains left over from All-Grain brewing,) along with beer yeast makes an out of this world load of bread. |

stouts and porters make great bbq sauces. It's pretty much like cooking with wine, use darker beers with ingredients that can stand up to the stronger flavor (like red wine), and lighter ones with more delicate ingredients (white wine). I usually put most of a bottle of some type of darker ale into my chili. This past batch had some Saint Arnolds Christmas Ale in it.

Crazy as it sounds, the beer milkshake is pretty darn good.
Seriously. Next time you want to make a milkshake, use stout instead of milk, along with vanilla ice cream. It's great. I've also done it with an apricot-y Sam Adams White Ale, and that was quite nice as well. I don't drink much or eat much ice cream, but now that I think about it I rather want a beer milkshake about now. |
| I usually replace water with beer in chili, marenates and crockpot stuff. Something that seems to be a hit when I grill is cut up an onion or two. Get several large hand fulls of mushrooms. Mix with grub rub in a bowl. Make a big boat out of foil. Dump seasoned onion and mushroom in. Add beer and seal foil and place on grill. Let cook down. Usually I put this on before everything else. By the time my ribs come off(3 hours) they are done. Great by them selves or in a potato with bacon. |
