Chrome works better than IE and Firefox for me but today it's giving me problems.  When I open the browser it doesn't go to my home page it goes to some generic google search page.  The problem that's pissing me off is my bookmarks bar disappears after a different page opens.  I can only get it back after I close and re-open the browser.

Any suggestions as to the cause and will re-installing Chrome delete my bookmarks?

Default Chrome opening page is not your homepage; it is the "frequently visited websites" page.  You can set Chrome to open a new window or tab to your homepage instead.

The bookmarks bar only shows up when you open a new tab but haven't navigated to a page yet.  Ie, you open a new tab and its on the "frequently visited websites" page - you can see the bookmarks bar.  If you set it to open up to your homepage, you won't see your bookmarks.

I've been using Chrome for 6 months and had google.com/ig set as my home page and the bookmark bar was always there no matter how many pages I had open before today.  Something happened overnight and I have no idea what it could have been.  The last thing I did last night was run a virus scan.

Right click on the bookmarks bar and click "always show bookmarks bar."

Thank you, that fixed the bookmarks issue.  I will try resetting my home page as well.  Something must have killed my settings overnight.  Maybe Santa was messing with me.
