Quoted: Hate trying to keep up with air squats and burpees with short people... ![]() I hate that they can do muscle ups in what looks like slo-mo too, I need to kip the shit out of them to pull it off. You mean like the one in the middle that doesn't use any kip at all? |

Lol crossfit. http://i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd457/jake1224/Kqctx.gif The people who actually need to maintain elite levels of fitness somehow magically managed to do so for hundreds of years prior to the recent spread of overpriced crossfit gyms run by skinny little jerks with terrible attitudes. Crossfit often pushes people to perform crazy O lifts or gymnastic exercises without developing the proper baseline of strength, resulting in undue injury. In short, it is an unnecessarily expensive and injury prone activity for most people, and not really even necessary for those who are serious about developing/maintaining elite-level fitness. Any suggestions? |

My back hurts just looking at that I bet 90% of Arfcom couldn't bear to keep up with those three chicks... Count me in the 10% that could. That chick in the white better stop lifting with the medicine ball behind feet, that is going to cost her badly someday when she needs to take a quick step backwards to regain her balance. |

Any suggestions? Push a prowler or wheelbarrow Squat heavy Deadlift heavy Run Hill sprints Burpees Weighted dips Carry heavy shit around the block Rinse Repeat This will get you pretty damn close to your potential without tearing up your shoulders, knees, hips and back, like will happen in Crossfit. |

So school us stud, what is elite fitness to you and how are you getting there? |

Ive never been as worn out as when my platoon volunteered to PT with the crossfit girls that worked on camp Lejeune. All they did every day was crush the hopes and dreams of Marines who thought they were in shape. In fact, I'm pretty sure they were Female Terminator robots sent to the past to Kill us all.

Are you fucking with me? I refering to having having an organized group of crossfit chicks who are paid to work at the on post gym. The rest doesnt suprise me. |

You nailed it. I did Crossfit for six months this year and really fell out of love with it quick. I came into the program at a fitness level that exceeded the students I was working out with and was very uncomfortable with the Olympic weightlifting. I'm all in on the rings, resistance training, rowing, Kettle bells, etc...but the manor in which they did Olympic style weight lifting was an obvious injury waiting to happen. Then there is the cultish following they have... As far as the video from the OP, those girls look cute but their form is aweful. That video is painful to watch. There is merit to some of the CF programs but that video shows exactly whats wrong with it. |

Everything both of you said is true of ANY fitness philosophy. If you are not trained to do it correctly you will hurt yourself. I went through it when I got started with another program(not crossfit). But blowing crossfit style workouts all together because someone gave you a bad taste is just ignorant. |

That reminds me of my first battalion at Bragg. Morning of a battalion change of command, the out-going battalion commander wants to do PT as a battalion. Have a battalion formation out on the PT field. BC steps up on this stage kind of thing acting all pumped up and saying how he wanted to do PT with us all on his last day. He said he wanted it to be special so he brought some friends to help out. Cue the two female aerobics instructors who were hiding somewhere. Holy shit they smoked the fuck out of us. It was brutal. I knew they would, but most of the battalion was cheering when the girls showed up... I'm guessing the had no idea what was coming..haha |

I've been to more than one CF gym and they all pushed members towards Olympic style weight lifting, that's the same experience friends have had. Obviously that's a small sample but combine that with the same message found all over the country and you start to build a picture for CF gyms teaching and promoting lifting to students that are clearly not ready (in addition to coaches that have no business teaching in the first place). Anyhow, there are a lot of sound CF routines, I just don't agree with their approach to Olympic weightlifting or how and who they teach it to. That isn't ignorance, that's first hand experience. Now then, finish separating your butter and get back to doing your tabatas.
ETA: The girl on the right on the rings has no business on the rings unsupported. Teetering bars, banging joints, etc. The goal is to gain or maintain strength not do long term damage or cheat your way through a workout with bad form. |

AHA now we get to the REAL problem with crossfit. This "certification" stuff is the biggest bunch of bullshit EVER. Insanely expensive and doesnt really teach you anything. You cant LEARN anything with 3 days of training. All it fucking means is that you are certified to know what a kick in the nuts feels like. Fitness is still a new science and constantly changing. It takes YEARS of learning and evolving before you are really ready to teach it to someone else. I guess I should have said somewhere that the previous 2 posters had legitimate complaints about what they have seen involving crossfit. I don't follow it for some of the same reasons, but the majority of my workout mimic all the same principles with some critical variation. Quoted:
Crossfit chicks sound hot but when you meet them in person, it's.........less so. I dont know where you've been working out but I suggest you find a new gym. The Xfit girls by me are first class. Hate to see them go but LOVE to watch them leave. |
