OK after looking some more Ive got new questions...

How fast of a CD-ROM? I saw an emachine with a 48x and right next to it a HP with a 16x so how fast does it need to be? How bout a CD-RW?

Also whats the general concensus on Emachines???
I saw one today 1.3Ghz for $700.

And how much RAM? 128 or more?

And do You need DDR RAM or is SD ok?

any other suggestions on what components/speeds to look for?

thanks

To answer a few, most new CD drives are 48, 52, or 56 speed. The 16x Hp you saw was most likely it's DVD drive, not just a plain old CD drive.

EMachines? My opinion, worse than a Compaq.

While you dont "need" this much, I perfer to have at least 256 megs of ram...

As for other components, if you want some REAL GOOD for price speakers, check out Altec Lansing's pair for 65 or 80 bucks, I forget which. But man, these friggin rock for 65 bucks (on sale), and comes with a NICE base! Sound quality is great too!
