I haven't been keeping up with the gps tech, but heard about this today on the radio and sounds like a cheap way to get gps on my wifi only Ipad2 in the car.

Neal Boortz was talking about using it on his airplane to get realtime positioning on his electronic maps on the iPad.

Anyone use something like this with a wi-fi only iPad?

Mine doesn't have the G3 stuff, so no gps built in.

You'd have to have a wifi connection for it to work.

iPad 2 only works with a couple of BT GPS units, and that is supposed to be one of them.

Next iPad I buy, I will spring the extra money for a 3G version, just for the gps function.

You will have to turn on Bluetooth, which will hurt your battery time a little.

Not bad for $80, and you can use it with your laptop as well.

Been doing a little bit of reading about these since my rooted Nook now has functioning Bluetooth.

There are apps out there for Android phones that allow tethering of both 3G and gps from a smartphone. Might be something similar in Apple land.

I just ordered one, I figure it will give me a little more versatility with the iPad.
