Dupe, I can't go back past 30 days, but its a dupe. Still funny as a fake russian though. After 10 years here, I have given up on not duping... It takes me several minutes to search for a "dupe" or milliseconds (usually) for one of you to let me know.... I'm all about saving time...LOL

Quoted: Personally have been through this about 7 times @ level 1 (full spray) and just as many @ level 2 (sponge to the forehead)... First time is definitely the worst and definitely a shock if you have never felt it... My first level 1, we did it on the ball field outside our barracks. Had a station at pitchers mound, and each base. I got sprayed at home plate. First stop was pitchers mound, with the redman and a baton. We were to subdue them with our PR-24. I was about three steps from the redman when the spray hit me and took the wind out of my sails for a moment...quickly replaced by getting pissed off that some SSG was standing between me and the quick stations and a water hose at the end. Well, I found that if I struck upwards hard in the groin area, right between the padding of the groin and the padding of the leg, the squad leader fell down and didn't want to play anymore....so I went on to knee strikes, elbow strikes, and an armed takedown. Water was not nearly as helpful as i thought it would be. I was SUCKING by that point....10pm that night, I was sitting in the bar with two cold beers, drinking one and holding the other on my still warm to the touch face, trying to get drunk cause I knew how bad the coming shower was going to be.... |

Quoted: I've never understood the mantra 'if you are going to use pepper spray, you must be sprayed with it...for training...so you know how it works..." We don't shoot people with a pistol, or beat them with a baton using that same logic. TRG I understand it. After being sprayed for the first time, and learning how it effects me when I get contaminated - either directly or as blow back when spraying another individual, left me with confidence that I could still fight and cuff my subject - another individual is going to be driving for a while though.... |

But I will say that after being "hit" a few times, you do better learn to function and "fight through it".... So, I get that angle... |

Overall (hindsight), glad to have done it several times... I guess that "bad shit in general" would seem easier... I'd rather take a punch than pepper though, at least from the average drunk. |

Damn that girl has some pain tolerance. OC hurts like a b. |

I've never understood the mantra 'if you are going to use pepper spray, you must be sprayed with it...for training...so you know how it works..." I always thought it had to do with the idea that a person who is in close enough contact to pepper spray their assailant is probably going to end up getting a dose of the stuff themselves, whether they use foam or spray or a fogger, and so they should go through the experience of it at least once so they're not taken completely by surprise and partially incapacitated by their own spray. That's what I read someplace, anyway. |

We use CS gas partially to train people to use the mask, and partially just to train them to function when subjected to pain & stress. The first time I was sprayed with OC, I made the fateful error in judgement of thinking it would be similar to CS with perhaps a slight "burning sensation".... Never made that mistake again...

BUT, and I know you think it is an odd suggestion, dish soap works well if applied to the eyes by fingers in the (cold) shower that you are going to be standing in for the next 45 minutes screaming like a little bitch. I hated the shit, I'll never forget that day. |
