Ok ARFCOM, why do I want one so bad? Are the current Colt manufacture worthwhile? Didn't the older ones have "issues"?  My last 10mm was a S&W which I sold like an idiot.

Opinion from current owners?

I almost bought one a few years back, went back the next day and it was gone

I don't know about the new ones, the ones made in late 80's to mid 90's are stereotypical UAW SHIT, early 80's are good from what I have seen.

New ones are ok...just I swear Colt sharpens all the edges before they ship

This is why we NEVER wait when we see a new toy we want.

When toys are seen, we buy them RIGHT FUCKING NOW.

Let that be a lesson to you.

I have one of the original 'enhanced' version.

The problem you alluded to was in the original production where the velocity of the slide was cracking the frame.

This was solved by cutting the frame above the slide stop.  It's a non issue anymore.

The new ones are GTG, I'm not sure if they did away with the plastic guide rod, and two piece recoil spring, but that's easily rectified.

My Delta feels left out, so gratuitous picture

They fixed the issue with frame cracking with a relief cut a while ago. It wasn't just the 10mm's that were having this problem from my understanding as well.

Anyway my delta elite is a few years old and I bought it new. No problems with mine. It gets along well with its friends.

The Delta Elite is a very well made piece.  My 10mm friends cherish them.

Happened to me when a retiring Sgt. was looking to get rid of an old Colt 1911 that his dad bought in the late 60's-early 70's...still regret not hitting the ATM for the $400.00 price he was asking for it.

I came back the next day after thinking about it and...

This thread interests me.  I'm thinking about getting one as a gift to myself in a few months.  It's either the Delta, a custom 1911 or a lever action rifle in 44 mag.

This animal has been of interest to me for a couple years.  The only issue I seem to have is what ammo is there?  If you could buy Ranger, HST, or Gold Dots for it I might jump, but AFAIK they don't exist.

The frame would crack where the slide stop hole was, they just machined away the tiny bit of metal and the problem was solved. I have a Delta Gold Cup without that piece of metal, but then I only put through about 100rds of low-powered(~45ACP) 10mm ammo through it, but for my LAR Grizzly with the 10mm conversion kit, its "balls to the walls."

Plenty of 10mm ammo out there. I use GA Arms for practice, FWIW.

why the recurved mainspring housing?  nice rod.  that doesn't work for me, however.  the last one we had in the shop went in a day, however, and it was straight.  colt is hard as heck to get product from.  overwhelmed or what?

I've seen plenty of the new Delta Elites come through the local shop, but I finally decided on a Dan Wesson RZ-10 for the following reasons:

1) It had a ramped barrel, which is desirable for high-pressure cartridges... and I can easily fit other ramped barrels, say in .40, to the frame.
2) It already had the sights, beavertail, extended safety that I wanted, and grips that I could work with.
3) Frontstrap was checkered.

I loved mine, but I had a tendency to flinch real bad when I pulled the trigger.  The resulting accuracy was not the greatest. I could never get over the flinching or the piercing blast, but I was shooting full power loads.

You mean the ARCHED mainspring housing that was one of the mods that turned the 1911 into the 1911A1 back in 1928???

That particular piece is a Smith & Alexander magwell guide/MS housing (it replaces the cheesy stock grey plastic factory arched one). The standard arch works for me. Some like the straight option, and that's also available as well from them. Oh, and thanks for the compliment. I'm pretty proud of her!

The Colt double recoil spring assembly is crap.  I put a 24 pound wolf spring set up in mine along with a buffer and I've never had a problem.  The issues with the slide cracking were mainly due to poor recoil spring design and battering due to the lack of a decent buffer.  My Delta is very accurate and reliable.  It's one of the older ones and I did a couple of mods to it.  I installed a beaver tail, completely redid the trigger assembly, and altered the angle of the feed ramp and polished it.  This is above the recoil spring and buffer mods I did.  Oh, I also installed a flat main spring housing that I'm probably going to replace with a flared bottom mag well design.

I put the same arched msh on my Kimber 10mm. The Kimber came with a cheesy plastic flat msh. I like the arch for better recoil distribution.

Nice pistol btw.

Although my Kimber 10mm is not near as nice as that DW, I bought it for many of the same reasons.

I just got mine in after a 5 month wait and have been
developing hand loads for it for the past to weeks, to say the least I'm in love with the pistol and I think every avid pistol
enthusiast should own its a blast to shoot and has eaten everything I've fed it.
The workmanship is also very nice.

i had one and even after extensive smith work it refused to feed jhps reliably on a full mag, so i traded it for a 45 acp colt and couldn't be happier.
I would still have it if it weren't for that problem though
