As it might be known, I'm in my dream house state, of having land in the Texas Hill Country and building a place there.

One of the things in the dream is a secret library, like something out of the Haunting

It was like at a corner of the place, possibly the only entrance by secret passage, and looking out on a private yard.

Two big problems with that, though. If it has windows looking out, how secret can it be? Secondly, I've found the problem with scenic views is that often after they are built, the view changes to something less desirable. Someone builds something in front of it, that's where the DC10 landed on a dime with its nose, something.

So I get to thinking, why not have, to the inside, windows but having the ideal, preferred scenic view played on them with a projector or the like? Perhaps even going as far as having the windows really being windows that can show the outside world if one wants to be in the fantasy even more and able to go outside some..........though I suppose the way I'm thinking, that's the side I should build a large greenhouse/ arboretum on. Who knows? Maybe at first, it can be projected windows but as the greenhouse is established, that can take over.

But this topic shouldn't be limited to holographics; what are other ideas for a Library of Solitude?

Or for that matter, where should the secret passages in one's place come from, go to?

My dream house would be a large house with a tower... shit, actually the house would BE the tower, up on a hill in the Hill Country.

Some beautiful land out there.

WE-LL.............the thought of having a Keep

has occassionally been in mind.

Occassionally for right now, it's the dreams of what the house might be like.........and the torments of "Okay, let's say you get the land; you have a year left in your apartment. What and how do you build first so you can take the contents of your apartment and be able to live out there with two cats and two dogs?"

Which, right now, gets down to a garage/work shop, which means clearing a space, putting a concrete slab in, getting some kind of structure on it, power, plumbing, and so forth. Has to be big enough for all of us to live in, room for the car, room for the contents I call an apartment. Further, on the "side" of that first building......is the secret passage/tunnel from it to the house. It might not be so secret, but it might be nice to have something enclosed for bad weather.....but that's just a thought.

Of course, before even this, one has to get the land although having thoughts like this may help in deciding which site to buy.

Who would have thought that a mid life crisis would be so stressful?

Looks COOL!........if I ever disappear and they can't find me, the cats maybe feasting on me in one of those secret rooms.

That one with the library behind the library reminds me of what it is said about Tracey Adams about her movies.

As I go through that site, talk about the modern version of the Keep and the Priesthole. Also, the basic thing about being hidden......don't let the most basic thing around you give it away. As they said for looking for hidden cargo holds on drug boats, look for things that have no reason for being there.

Very cool indeed!

If I ever win the lottery, ima buy a few thousand acres in the middle of fuckin nowhere (mebbe the ozarks) and build a goddamned castle.

And yes, there will be many a stuper sekret rooms in the place, along with a goddamned underground garage+long ass access tunnel ala batman.

150+ MPH before ever leaving the inside of your garage? Yes please

...now I have the urge to go buy some powerball tickets

And a Batcave is not out of line for our dreams......though the dirt in hill country Texas maybe a little rocky for that.

Right now, as my dreams cross with reality, the dreams are winning out slightly, but not totally.

I mean, do I want a bedroom like this? Plausibly, but the thing about the movies is that all the normal things in life one does, such as dusting, is usually done by lots and lots of people one never sees.

But how extensive of an underground system? Well, considering the wild fire potential around here, the more that is underground when things get burnt to the ground, there might be some value in that.......though right now, I'm just thinking tunnels, armory, and maybe, other facilities of a Tier IIA Safehouse (private residence with capabilities that might be used for Tier II standards, but not designed for it). Perhaps as extensive as Tanis's lair, but neater, better organized, perhaps like Jean-Pierre's place in "Ronin" (ie, better patch up capability than just first aid).

The thing is, the way I see it, is building a tunnel system between the house, the garage, the greenhouses, maybe the hanger, one does that with a back hoe and some kind of pre fab tunnel, bury it with a Bobcat. (I suppose, CE construction like that is not really my line).

Of course, then there is that other issue as well. For the perfect complex built, will one be able to get around if they break a leg and end up on crutches? Assuming they get that far...........
