THIS is why I opt out, you assholes.
Gov't glossed over scanner reports... |
|
"Because of a regulatory Catch-22, the airport X-ray scanners have escaped the oversight required for X-ray machines used in doctors’ offices and hospitals. The reason is that the scanners do not have a medical purpose, so the FDA cannot subject them to the rigorous evaluation it applies to medical devices." "Still, the FDA has limited authority to oversee some non-medical products and can set mandatory safety regulations. But the agency let the scanners fall under voluntary standards set by a nonprofit group heavily influenced by industry." That didn't stop the FDA from going after laser pointers ![]() |

Some studies show cell phone use can be dangerous, long term. (WHO). Tanning beds are in wide use.
People poo-poo that and yap on their phones all day. Turn their skin to leather. Few rays from a Secure 1000, meh. “Even though it’s a very small risk, when you expose that number of people, there’s a potential for some of them to get cancer,” said Kathleen Kaufman, the former radiation management director in Los Angeles County, who brought the prison X-rays to the FDA panel’s attention.
Sucks to be them. The rest of us are safe. |

If we don't get cancer, THE TERRORISTS WIN! It's for the children. |

I find it very interesting that the TSOs don't have dosimeters. That says everything I need to know. I'm surprised one or a few of them haven't gotten their hands on a dosimeter and then put out the results. On the other hand, I've dealt with them, and know the reason why. |

Sucks to be them. The rest of us are safe. It could be argued that the backscatter machines make us less safe since they can't look into body cavities. Just takes one person willing to shove a bomb up his ass and he can walk right through the scanner even if the normal metal detector would have caught the trigger before. |

Quoted: Sitting at DCA right now. Walked through security about 30 min ago. Entire flight crew in front of me opted out, all 6. Hmmmm....... If I were a frequent flier, I damn sure wouldn't go through those things. Once or twice a year might be tolerable to some, but twice a day for your entire career? You're asking for your junk to fall off. |
