| 1996 Chevy Lumina. Some knocking started in the engine tonight so hopefully it is nothing too serious. If it is expensive to fix I don't know what I'd do, since I couldn't afford to get it fixed and I can't afford a replacement vehicle. I do need my car, though. It cost almost as much as the vehicle is worth to get all the problems sorted out. The previous owner did not take care of it and when it did go to a shop it was one of those shady Mexican places. Fortunately, acquisition did not cost much. The owner just said if I was willing to fix any issues, could get it towed, and would pay the late registration fees on the vehicle I could have it. I've already put 23,000 miles on it. Got it last year. |

Datsun 180B fuck me was that a cunt of a car. Still, got me around for a year or two. Funny story on how i got it. It was my older sisters, and she was selling it. The day a bloke was coming out to pick it up I, as i was wanton to do, took it for a spin. Being 14 and a hoon, i lost it on a dirt road, and flipped it. A very slow harmless flip, but it ended up on its roof none the less. After pushing it back on its feet and driving it home, i got it a wee bit of trouble from the sister, mum and dad. So i had to buy the 180. I think it was 600 bucks. Fuckin cunt of a car that one. |
My first VEHICLE was a 1971 Kawasaki Mach III 500 triple . painted Kawi green with a set of Bill Wirges expansion chambers and a little quarter fairing . I pushed that thing more than I rode it
My first car was a 73 Lincoln Continental Coupe . 460 , black on black , moon roof , I got it as a fixer-upper graduation incentive . I drove the hell outa her . Sorry , no pics of either |
| First car was a '66 Chevy C10 Step Side short bed. My Dad and I did a frame off, swapped in a newer frame, slammed it, tossed on some 18's, paint, and off to the car show. Really regret selling that truck. Looking at buying it back now. Sorry no pics. All seem to have been lost over the years. |

1989 Ford Taurus with horribly faded red maroon paint that I got in 2001. I was so proud of it, but there was no way to make it shine. Whole bottle of car wax would just make it's paint duller, what a piece of shit that thing was. It would break down every saturday. |
1976 Jeep CJ10.... 455 AMC motor (I think it was anyhow, motor wasn't stock.,, it was a 1980),4x4... Could pull a house off the foundation AND get 6 mpg on a downhill with a tailwind. . Thank God gas was only .84 cents a gallon. When I bought it, the seller threw in a sweet 8-track collection... Hendrix, Sabbath, Foghat, Creedence....
When I sold it, the buyer basically got a new truck... I think I replaced every part on it that moved at least once. I still miss that truck. Edit to add: was pointed out by another member that 401 was the largest AMC... I know it had a 455 in it, thought it was an AMC motor. I spent enough time wrenching in there. Either way, I can credit the 8-tracks with my current love of Foghat. |

A '70 Olds Cutlass - old enough to have some issues, but not a complete junker. If it needed work, and my father thought I should be able to figure out how to do it myself, he wouldn't pay for the repairs; I could do it myself, or pay for it myself. First time I ever said "fuck" in front of my father was working on that car; he just laughed at me. I still have scars on my hands, wouldn't trade them for another whole cup size. Jane |

'66 Rustang coupe. 289ci with a 3 speed. When I towed it home, the engine was out, trans was out, floor pan was rusted out. First task was to overhaul the brake system front to back. Then replace the floor pan. Rebuild engine. Rebuild trans. By the end of summer I had the interior installed and repaired some wiring problems. Unfortunately I had to head to college. The Rustang sat for a winter. The following spring when school was out I started back at it. Life got in the way. I did not have time to get the engine & trans back in it. Got married, bought a house....blah blah blah. Sold the restored Mustang to my FIL to pay for a washer & drying for my wife. FIL finished up the car and installed the engine & trans. THEN I GOT TO DRIVE IT once. |

Either way, I can credit the 8-tracks with my current love of Foghat. I hate to say it but never heard of a cj10. Looks like they are a 81-85 model and yours was modded. From wiki "CJ-10 Production 1981-1985 Body style 2-door pickup truck Engine Nissan SD33 3.3L Diesel or AMC 258 Petrol The Jeep CJ-10 was a CJ-bodied based pickup truck that had a modified J series chassis. Produced from 1981 through 1985, it was sold mainly as an export vehicle. They featured square headlights mounted in the fenders and a 9-slot grille, a homage to the old Jeeps of WWII which originally had a 9 slot grille (the civilian model, the CJ-2 and 2a, were given a 7 slot grille as a distinction between the military and civilian models). These were equipped with either a Nissan 3.3 diesel, or a 258 AMC engine. The driveline consisted of a Tremec T177 4 speed or 727 automatic and a New Process 208 transfer case and a Dana 44 front differential and Dana 60 rear differential." |

First car?
Picked up a '67 RS Camaro in 1977 for $50! Owner had drained the oil to change it, and forgot to refill it!
I then swapped in the first of MANY motors over the years. Also had another '67 Camaro, a '68 Chevelle, '71 SST Javelin, '70 Cutlass, etc,etc.... Brings a tear to my eye, the stuff we tore up, parted out, demo-derbied, etc back then. Wish I still had ANY of them. |

1984 Toyota regular cab stripped down pickup, 4 wd with a straight axle front end
My dad bought it from a buddy, sold it to my brothr, sold it to me. Bed rotted clear off of it, put on a new bed. Motor had 246k miles when the clutch gave up. Changed the clutch and it developed an oil leak. Motor let go 20 k later. Built te hell out of a little 22r, put a 4" lift on it with factory 4.11 front and rear. Truck ran 33-12.50 Thornbirds and was unstoppable. Untill the frame broke. I patched it and kept going. Frame broke again. I rplaced the frame from the trans cross member on back and never had anymore problems. I miss that little junker. Ended up building 7 other Toyotas. Great little trucks |

1968 Mustang coupe pos that I bought for $300 when I was 13.
Straight 6 and 3-speed. Swapped in a 289 and promptly hulled out the rearend. Put in a 9" and had 5-lugs on rear and 4 on the front.
Puked the rear driveshaft twice, tree fell across the rear window, backed into another tree, hood flew up at some unknow speed while trying to impress my buddies, starter would randomly loosen up and not engage the flywheel, getting the pos in reverse was a rare occasion and a botched stereo install that resulted in a cab full of smoke and hysterical panic. Finally parked it when I turned 18 and bought a new truck... Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

1956 VW convertible. I got it for 50 dollars (this was 1969) and spent another $300 fixing it up. Sold it for $350 to two sisters, who destroyed it. http://lymanhall.smugmug.com/Cars/VW/1970-1/476927243_dVGMw-M.jpg Wow, that would be worth some serious coin nowadays. First car was a '63 VW Beetle, shared it with my twin brother. It got rear ended, we put it in the body shop at the local votech school to get it fixed. It was rear ended again almost at once, by a guy who went to the votech; I wondered if he was the one who worked on it in class, and did it on purpose in revenge or something of the sort. The brother and I wound up cutting off the back and front ends, making a Baja Bug with it. After the twin left for the Air Force, I put a Judson supercharger and a big bore kit on it. Thing ran like a stripe assed ape, though I'd blow it up every 500 miles or so. Rebuilt the engine five times in a year, got pretty good at it. Wound up selling it and buying a '68 GTO. |
