We started noticing little terds under the sink, in the drawer under the oven etc...Put a few sticky traps out with peanut butter last night and killed four of the bastards.
Does anyone know how to permenantly rid the house of these rodents? The cold weather we have been having must have brought them in but I can't find their entrance source. War has be waged!! Help? |

title looks like ass mice... lol
but honestly... get asclose to ground level as you can and seeal ALL entry points no matter how small. Remove all debris and bird feeders from house perimeter. Animals seek 3 things, food, water shelter. And we provide them with all of these in our homes. try your best to remove some of these from access and trap the phuck out of them... if all else fails.... switch to poison. but that is a tricky road |
| They can get thru an opening as small as a dime. Spend the time sealing the house up well and don't forget to raise vents high enough off the ground to prevent them getting in the house thru them. A dryer vent close to the ground is one of the easiest access routes they have. |

this works well too.... fill with water.... drowned mouse in the morn |

We have the best luck trapping them in the garage. I don't know how the hell they get in the house from the garage, but they do. Trust me I have looked everywhere and seal all the holes I could find with steel wool and caulk. If I can catch them in the garage then the wife doesn't freak out. If one happens to make it into the house, watch out!! |

I have em too. I have had some luck with snap traps but you have to tape them to the floor with duct tape because they push em out of the way. I just tried the bucket trick and only caught one in 3 days. I revised it with a paper plate instead of a can so we'll see how that works. I hate the little fuckers. |

Go on safari. The following is a story I posted a while back. There are a couple more if y'all want to read 'em. All of it is true and happened in my house, to me. Sitting on my couch last night during Jeopardy, I see an adolecent mouse dart out from behind the cedar chest. My cat was lazily stretched out in her windsor chair that she stole from me. My two dogs were asleep 5 feet away from the culprit and didn't lift even an eyebrow. I was armed with my micro compact 1911 but I figured that would be a bit too much gun and the wife would probably be mad as she was sitting on the couch next to the cedar chest. My second thought was my Beeman Tempest air pistol but after consideration of the velocity of said weapon and size of the mouse, overpenetration was still a concern. I didn't want a hole in my woodwork, even a .177 hole. Alas, I thought of my airsoft Glock replica spring piston. Ammo was 6 mm plastic balls at approx 200fps. I went and retrieved the pistol and my Surefire Backup (which, btw, I've been very happy with as an edc light). I scrounged 5 rounds from the bottom of the tub of airsoft/paintball crap that has been sitting in the basement for years, loaded the magazine and chambered a round. Now the chest in question has only about a 1.5 inch opening at the bottom so I lay down flat with the gun horizontal and the light on the floor. I press the side of my face against the floor and spy my adversary backed into the rear most corner... about a 5 foot shot from where I lay. It took some effort to get a decent site picture and after calculating the proper hold under due to the sites not having to work against gravity, I squeezed off the first shot. I belive it just touched his hind quarters. The reason I know this is he came charging out from under the chest directly toward my face and got within about 6 inches of my nose. He was far too fast and I was in much too awkward a position from which to rechamber my pistol. I did the only thing I could... retreat about 3 feet by carefully employing a ninja roll. My wife was getting great enjoyment out of the whole spectacle. The mouse, not so much, I suspect. I rechambered and went for shot #2. Repositioned and "doink" a broadside shot right behind his shoulder. The damn airsoft didn't achieve penetration, but the blunt trauma must have been tremendous, relatively. The mouse rolled over and kicked once. He lay still for about 30 seconds and then regained his feet. CRAP. OK, time for a head shot. I lined up my sites very carefully and with as much control as possible squeezed the chinese copy of an already poor Glock trigger. "Doink" . Yep, right in the side of the head. That was all she wrote. He was DRT. I moved the chest and retrieved my quarry. I contemplated skinning and mounting it as my first airsoft trophy but I think I'll wait for a bigger one. Anyone know how Pope and Young scores mice? |
| I have posted this story before but it's worth retelling. When I lived in Washington DC, my apartment was generally fine but there were rats in the building (not unusual). Several times, I saw one of the rats actually crawl out of the baseboard vent and enter my unit. I started keeping a cat and the rats did not come back. I also put out traps just in case (the cat was too smart to eat the predictable cheese in the traps) but the traps never went off. The rats just stopped coming into my unit, and I credit the cat. |

Yep... resets itself, they drown pretty fast, and you just have to change out the water every week or so once it gets cold to keep the stink down. |

My wife and I just discovered one in the basement living near the washer and dryer. We saw the droppings then saw him. I'm going to get some traps today and hopefully rid the house of them.
ETA: We live about 50 yards from a golf course and I'm assuming that's where they are coming from. |

get some of the electronic Victor traps, they are kind of expensive but damn it they take care of business. Just don't let a mouse sit on one to long (check to see if you have blinking lights often) because they will ooze out and short the trap. After years of seeing rats outside (we live in a rural neighborhood) , they have breached the gates, they are now inside the wire. Girlfriend heard squeaking and found evidence under the sink and in the pantry. Grabbed one of those Victor E-traps, nothing yet, but hoping for 1 zap, 1 kill. I have a cheapie airsoft pistol, might have to grab the night vision, make a suburban kitchen ghille suit and go hunting.

I've been at war for the last couple weeks, and have been using a couple different types of snap traps. The classic Victors with the copper latch seem to work the poorest, the Victors with the large yellow "cheese" latch work pretty damn well, but the Ortho Press N Set are awesome. They have a cup inset on the base with a cutout on the latch. Put a bit of peanut butter in there, and then a half of a whole peanut. Catches them on the neck or upper back every time, doesn't break the skin, and they don't get to steal the bait. I don't even have to rebait the traps, I just pick up the trap, press the arming tab, the mouse drops into the trash, the trap resets, and I put it back in place. They cost more up front, but I think they'll last way longer. If they get gross, looks like they'll go in the sink or dishwasher with no problems. Also, my live trap has nabbed two pack rats so far, which ended the day 40 grains heavier. All caught with the Victors with the large yellow tabs, at the new house under renovation. |

The wife has done her best to seal them out with steel wool, great stuff, and caulking gun cement but they still find a way. Every once in a while we find one in a trap and for me they are cheap enough to just throw them away mouse and all. |
