I always hear good things about .357 magnums. But, it looks like that for a carry gun, <3'', 9mm is faster than .357 mag. So it seems like 9 would be more powerful for a small carry gun, correct? Or am I missing something. ![]() |

Same barrel length? The .357 Magnum will always be faster. Now if the loads are reduced flash, they might be closer. The .357 barrel lengths are often quoted as if it were a revolver length, this discounts chamber length. A 2" .357 magnum barrel is equivalent to a 3" 9mm barrel in distance from muzzle to breech face. |

Shooting a .357 out of a short barreled revolver is not for the faint of heart. A compact 9mm will be smaller, hold more rounds, allow better accuracy and faster follow-up shots. With modern ammo, a 9mm with quality hollowpoints will be quite effective. |
