I am getting messages every month saying that I'm close to exceeding my data (200mb/month).  I hardley ever use internet on my phone, maybe 2 or 3 times a month.  There is no way I'm drawing that much email.

So how much data do you 3g/4g guys use per month? How much do you use it?

I use less than 100 MB.

Check your phone for automatic updates and refreshes that would use data. If you're using a weather widget, calendar sync, playing a game that displays ads, etc. If you're on an android phone, look to see what's running in the background and if it's something that refreshes constantly. It's all using your data. You use a little bit of data when stuff tries to sync, like your email. If you have it set to refresh every 10 minutes, you're going to use more than if it updates twice a day.

No widgets,  I did have a game with ads but I only played it twice, just deleted it.  I have it set to push email and calender but I only get maybe 5 emails and really don't use my calender that much.

Edit:  5 emails a day on average.

My GF's idiot kid has the IPhone 4, with some streaming music program.  Since the middle of September, he's used 825 MEGS of data.  Thank God we have unlimited, but this is nuts.

Buy a fucking radio, don't leave your damned phone on all night because you're too much of a pussy to sleep in the dark, when it's quiet.  Cripes...

If we were paying any other plan, he'd have bankrupted us.

I have an original Droid.  My usage from 9/11/11 to 10/11/11 was about 175MB.

I don't use it for e-mail much.  I do use it for internet on occasion.  I don't have a lot of apps, but the apps I have I try to keep updated.

I do sometimes use it for GPS navigation, but I don't think that's pulling much (if any) bandwidth.

I'm 13 days into my billing cycle and I'm at 1.486GB. Usually around 3GB each month on a Verizon unlimited plan.

I use at least 3 gigs every month. I use my phone as a tether and use it's data to get internet on my laptop while I'm at work.

Check your apps. Some of them have internet permissions and send data out constantly. Another thing you can do is go into your wireless/data settings on your phone and disable data services and when you want to check your email enable it. I keep my data services off unless I'm going to use my phone's internet because it saves battery life.

There is a big difference between a mb, and a MB. 100mb is not very much data..

Correct, MB, and Mb are often interchanged at will without knowing there is a difference.

With my iPhone 4, I seem to run between 200 and 400MB per month. Then there was a few months ago when I was stuck in the hospital for a week, ended up over 800MB for that month... It seems like unless you are streaming a lot of video, or tethering to a laptop(which is usually yet ANOTHER overpriced option ), it would be hard to go over the 2GB plan that AT&T has... But I still don't want to drop my old grandfathered unlimited data

We average 2-2.5 GB per month, between 2 phones (most of the usage by my phone.)

Back in February, when we were living in a motel as the house was being repaired, We hit ~8.5GB, with ~6.5 GB in March. The phone was my only source for internet for the better part of a year.

lol, I've used 291 MB in the last week just streaming music with Pandora

If it's an unlimited plan, why do you care? Customized commercial free music stations are FAR better than any commercial radio station I've ever come across.

Why would you care if the plan is unlimited? Why waste money on a radio when you can listen to it free with the included data package already purchased for your phone? There's a lot more variety on internet/app based radio anyways.

I don't care if it's on in the daytime when he's awake.  But at 24, if you can't sleep when it's quiet because clowns will get you, or something, you have issues.  I could see Pandora, if you can get the music you like, without the stuff you don't.  Hell, I'd like Sirius better if I could opt out of some songs on Octane...

When I'm trying to sleep, I *HATE* whiny music, though...

I used to have to sleep to music because I can't stop thinking about shit when I'm going to bed.  Doesn't matter what it is work, a video game I've been playing, a book I've been reading.  I just can't shut down, music helped that.  Now I use some thunder storm app I got for my iphone that has different types of storm sounds on a timer.  Works like a champ, since I have had it I have only made it to the cut off (1.5 hours) like 3 times.
