I know there are a fair number of minecraft lovers on this site, so I thought I'd bring to light a mod that a lot of you might like to check out. If you have any mods you favor, post them as well.
Tale of Kingdoms You start out in a prebuilt town, which is quite impressive. In this town you can buy and sell materials to buy armors and food, and the objective is to kill enough monsters so that you will be allowed to build your own town (Which is done by NPCs when you pay them enough resources). It adds a new resource in the form of gold coins, which aren't kept in your inventory but rather in a counter above it. Killing a mob causes it to drop ~30 gold coins in addition to its usual drops. With the gold you can purchase, in addition to the armor and food you might need, blocks of all sorts to build or craft things, mercenary npcs which level up and follow your orders, and you can upgrade your own town- adding things like item shops with greater inventories, stock markets, and taxable citizens and their homes. The prebuilt structures are impressive looking, especially with a nice looking medieval type texture mod- I recommend Dokucraft from here, which is one of the most popular texture packs for good reason. Its very well put together and doesn't have 472834 prerequisite mods that will break the game every time Notch puts out an update. It's pretty balanced too, which is another problem with mods- making the game too easy. My only beef is that I wish diamond material could cost a little bit more, but its not cheap- like I said, its roughly 30g per mob you kill, and a diamond plated chest is around 4300 gold. It's sort of like playing Fable, if every Fable past the first one hadn't sucked ass
