One of my MBO's for this year.
Voluntary attrition for exempt team members at a Level 4/5 performance rating not to exceed 5%. Total voluntary attrition not to exceed 15%. Attrition for diverse team members not to exceed 5%.
Insure that there is a qualified slate of diverse candidates for all open positions where the base salary is $75K or above with the goal of improving on 2010 performance where 30% of these positions were filled with ethnically diverse team members. Opinions? |

Opinions? Can someone please translate this into everyday, common, English for me. Then I may be able to comment. |

Quoted:
MBO = Managerial Bonus Objective I believe Basically, make sure we don't lose the minorities or gays and make sure enough of them apply for promotions so we can hire them over more-qualified individuals that pale in comparison. Makes sense to me. Got to keep them happy or they will occupy a park somewhere. Oh, wait This will be a major portion of the downfall of this country. |

Opinions? Well, for starters they should have said "ensure," not "insure." I insure my car. I ensure that my car is insured. |

Quoted: Quoted: Pay all the minorities employed there an extra 20% more in wages. Count them as 1.2 employees. Now you've hired x amount of minorities. Profit. Speed We can call it something unique, like the "five-sixths compromise" ![]() I dig it. It's a good thing I no longer have to sit on conference calls or go to wasteful meetings...I used to live bringing up innovative, forward thing ideas like this Speed |

I have heard it here as "Management By Objective". Managers have a sitdown with their next higher level of management and set a goal for the next period, such as "cut overtime in my area by half". If this goal is met by the next evaluation, the manager gets a bonus. We had it where I work, and may still have it under another name. It "works", in the sense that the major objective can be accomplished thanks to incentives. It also fails, since everything else in the managerial area becomes subordinate to earning that bonus. I think I see what you did there. That might be one MBO I might be willing to miss out on. |

Screw affirmative action, hire the best person for the job and be done with it. If they can't compete, let them toss burgers or clean toilets... ![]() Actually, that is 100% consistent with the letter of Affirmative Action. Theory and implementation are two very different things though...
