The iPod killer dies a pathetic death.
I love it when bad things happen to microsoft.

Quoted: I have a zune actually. They only fucking half tried with the thing. MS needs to get their shit in order. I would like to slap several people there. Yeah, I don't know anyone in the audio arena who was "greatly anticipating the Zune iPod killer" It was known well before release that M$ did some stupid shit with it. I would bet Cowon sells more units. |

I would bet Cowon sells more units. Cowon would have sold me one, had I not gotten a great deal on my Zune. It isn't a bad player, but it was never going to take the world by storm. The gen 2's were better and I thought they were on the right track with the HD, but it doesn't seem to have caught on. I think they WOULD have sold a lot more units, if it had drag-and-drop media loading. <shrug> poop occurs. My next portable media player will probably Cowon. |

The Zune was an awesome little media player that came in a little too late. It's like the Betamax of today.

I would bet Cowon sells more units. Maybe so, but you have to figure that most iPod users do not care about sound quality enough to buy a Cowon D2 or similar unit. Next time you see someone with earbuds on the street, odds are that they are the crappy white stock Apple earbuds. They will not be using Etymotic ER6is or Shure E2/3s or anything decent. I fear that one can only succeed in the iPod market if you sell to the lowest common denominator. |

Now Apple is apparently going to discontinue the iPod Classic. Fuck that, I don't feel like having to pick up the iPod, unlock the screen, and hunt around for the "next" or "stop" button, all the while trying to keep The Humungus's gasoline-chugging suicide jockeys from putting a harpoon through my car door at 80 MPH.
Touchscreen interfaces suck mule cock for MP3 players. |

I fear that one can only succeed in the iPod market if you sell to the lowest common denominator. Yeah I know. I guess I'm not their intended demographic because I find nothing that appeals to me about the iPod. I kinda like some of the features of the iTouch, but I don't own one as I feel they're pretty damn expensive. Sound quality, drag and drop, no DRM schemes, these things appeal to me the most. Even $99 refurbished Zune blowouts couldn't get me to buy one. I don't know what they go for now... but back then I went with a Zen Vision W. Even though I don't use it that much, it has everything that is important to me. Cost more than a refurb Zune too, hell I think it was more than a new Zune too. |
| Besides 25 years of bug ridden CrapWareâ„¢, Microsoft used unlawful, even criminal, market tactics during the late 80's and '90s to exclude competitors from the market by under pricing the operating system in bundled hardware packages, and excluding competitive application programs (Lotus 123, Word Perfect, etc., etc.) to illegally monopolize market segments. The EU fined Microsoft $600 million for it, and the DoJ in 2001 was on a trajectory to heavily fine (over $1 billion) and break Microsoft into several small companies, much like the oil and steel industries in the Sherman Anti-trust era. Fortunately for Microsoft, Osama bin Laden attacked on September 1, 2001, and DoJ resources were immediately redirected to the war on terror. Without a doubt, Bill Gates and Microsoft were the biggest beneficiaries of the 9-11 attacks. |

It's not so much sound quality that draws me to Cowon, it's codex support and the ability to load the player without special software. Sound quality is a nice bonus, though. |

It's a great device, but the software sucks bad. I don't know why the didn't just make it work with Windows Media Player. The only thing good about the software is that isn't Itunes that tries to take over your computer. |

I can legally install Windows on pretty much anything with a processor. I can legally install OSX on an Apple branded computer. Slight difference. |

Who has a big clunky music player these days? My music is on google and available wherever I want. Phone, computer, tablet. I do have a little Sansa Clip+ that I can just clip to my shorts. Its handy and cheap. I don't have Google in my car 24/7 everywhere I go. In places I will not get a signal with my phone, I will get one from my Zune. |
|
I have a Zune and I could not agree more. It is a terrible device. I got mine refurbished from Newegg for something like $20, so I am not too upset about it. I should have just purchased some generic MP3 Player. At least all the mp3 files are compatable with my Droid and I can say goodbye to the software now when I throw the Zune Player as far into the woods as I can chuck it.
I think I might take the Zune to the range with me instead. I can tape it to the 200m steel target and kill it with my AR. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
