| So the Earth as modern geology is concerned is give or take 4.6 billion years old. Life as we know it was limited to prokaryotes (asexual clones) for around 2 billion years. Then sexual reproduction comes along and we get all of the wonderful variation of life that we have now. So who was the first organism to decide to get it on? He or she was one bad life unit. |

His name was Steve. Scared the hell out of his girlfriend Pandora. |

Haploid? Diploid? BUGABOO!!! Hey egghead, does talking like a nerd allow you to combine your DNA with say an organism called Megan Fox?? No, I don't think so! I declare your reproductive strategy a failure! So after 8 billion years why you still talk like that huh? |

Life is not special. You should only believe in logical things. Life is special. No, life is just a coincidence, arising in a universe made for other reasons. And I know that because some finches have differently shaped beaks than others. While virtually all of the available data strongly implies that both life and the universe (as we know them) were formed over a much longer period of time than many popular religions suggest, said data does not prove or imply any reasons for the existence of either. The goal of science isn't to find the "why", it's to explain the "how" using observable data obtained from studying the physical world we live in. Even if science were to "prove" (which is a fallacy in and of it's own, math revolves around proof, science revolves around finding the best explanation to fit the available data) tomorrow that the earth is 6000 years old, and that it was created by the God of Abraham, there would still be much to learn of the mechanics behind how God created the universe (though this is very unlikely, given that there is little, if any, physical data to support such a position). |

Did we make it a month? A month? nah....we didn't make it a day. I know the subject is dupish, but I am exploring a specific here. When did sex first appear on Earth and how/why. The implications of the first horny organism are huge and I find it fascinating. If it was God that instilled this behavior then why is lust a sin? |

Well, it really depends on how you define sex, now doesn't it? |

Organism #1: Hey baby, I just thought of something. Organism #2: Yeah? What? Organism #1: Know how you have genetic material, and I have genetic material? Organism #2: Yeah? Organism #1: How's about we shake up this ol' world, huh? Let's give 'em something to talk about! You feelin' me, baby? Organism #2: Not at all. What are you talking about? Organism #1: LET'S MIX UP OUR DNA! Organism #2: That's impossible. Organism #1: Yeah well they said faithful replication over multiple generations was impossible, too, but did that stop the Big Numero Uno? It did not. Organism #2: Sharing DNA...I don't even know what you would call that. Organism #1: Way ahead of you, baby. Check it: Super Evolution Extreme! SEX, for short. Organism #2: Wouldn't that be SEE? Organism #1: No, see, you have to sound it out, get it, baby? SEX. Organism #2: Not really...hey, why do you keep calling me baby? Organism #1: Well, I thought of it, so I get to be the male. I may have to consult with the Q to be sure. |

There are some theories surrounding the origin of sexual reproduction, though due to the fact that such a transition likely occurred a couple of billion years ago it's impossible to determine which specific theory is correct. The truth is, even if we managed to recreate such a transition in a lab, it's impossible to know for sure if that's the same way it happened on early Earth. Wikipedia as an overview of some of these theories HERE, though it requires a little bit of knowledge in the field of biology to really get a grasp on what those theories are trying to say. |

Evolution is an atheist creation myth. Bingo I'll make a deal with you. You post some examples of verifiable empirical data or evidence that supports any model for the current state of life on Earth other than evolution, (not evidence against evolution, mind you, but evidence in support of another theory, such as the Judeo-Christian model). For every piece of data or evidence that you provide, I will provide three pieces of data or evidence that supports the theory of evolution. We'll see who runs out of supporting data first. |
| Atlas holds up the Earth on his shoulders, and his feet are firmly resting on who knows what. I used to work in the tallest buildings in NYC, but if I refer in an oblique way to the perpetrator's religion that destroyed them, I get a lovely message. Go figure....... |
