My friend since 1995 is a truther. I would say at one time we were very tight like brothers. We had a falling out last October over this shit.

We emailed each other once in a blue moon with small shit and casual talk, mostly him contacting me. We agreed to bury the hatchet and talked the first time in almost a year on the phone the other night. Call went well. He mentioned it. I said "lets not go there" kind of thing.

Well tonight it happened again. Until I was so mad I was screaming into the phone with rage!!!

I cant fucking think straight my head and heart is full of so much hate.

Anyone else have this stone in thier shoe?

I've never cut a friend loose because of a political or social ideal.  I HAVE cut them use for a distinct failure or unwillingness to use logic or discuss things in a civil manner.

Life is too short to have idiot friends, but it is sweetened by the challenge of a well-learned and intelligent mind.

Im the one that didnt remain civil. He is not stupid but since the internet info and YouTube he buys into almost any and every conspiracy.

Ever seen Zeitgeist? These are his talking points...  God doesnt exist, 12th planet, Anunaki, Nubiru, Didnt land on the moon, landed on the moon and there are buildings on the dark side, muslims mean us no harm and have never caused harm......

So depending on who you talk to I am being closed minded or have a low tolerance for bullshit. One or the other.

At least he's not a socialist.  A lifelong friend who likes to portray himself as a conservative Democrat (oxymoron these days) told me that Obamacare didn't go far enough and that we need socialized medicine like the Europeans.  I probably won't stop being friends with him but part of thinks I should.  I sure as hell won't be taking his on any subject in the future.

More importantly, why do you care?  You're trying to argue god with anyone?  That's pretty weaksauce.

Talk about shit that matters, not government conspiracies ect.

Also, there were no planes bro!

And we went around and around about the healthcare. He will say he is not a socialist but if the conversation comes up he thinks healthcare is a RIGHT that we must all collectively pay for.

He will go full retard and say they have better medicine elsewhere. He then uses an example of people flying to Brazil for their healthcare because it is cheaper.

I don't need friends to debate these issues.  Plenty of non-friends out there for that purpose.

All this.

Since he knows clearly that you don't want to talk about that subject, for the life of me, I can't understand why he would insist on bringing it up, even when say not to.

I have friends that believe things that drive me nuts, sometimes it's their politics, sometimes it's other stuff. So we just don't talk about that stuff and instead talk about the things that made us friends in the first place.

Sorry to hear that your friend is a bit of a narcissist.

My friend believes almost every conspiracy theory. He things the comet elenin will cause a full solar eclipse for 3 days, during which good people will transition into the fourth dimension and fight some sort of battle against demons.

Alex Jones abducted my older brother's brain.

He is so wrapped around the axle with all his Illuminati/Trilateralist Commision/CFR/Bilderberger/Rothschild/9-11 conspiracy stuff that you can't have a rational conversation with him.

He gave me a DVD of "Loose Change."  Didn't take me long to realize that it was made by kids who didn't have backgrounds in the subject matter.  They didn't understand, which led them to the wrong conclusions, so they interpreted it as a conspiracy rather than admit they were ignorant.

There are videos on YouTube of a couple guys from Popular Mechanics handing these punks their butts on a platter in a "debate."

If you do a search for "9/11 conspiracies debunked" you'll find lots of useful information.

#1 I would never have any friends that are so stupid so it would never come up.
#2 I am so good at debating and mocking people in real life (it's a lot harder to do on the internet) that most people come around to the way I think.
Of course it depends on the issue. Can i convince someone Creationism is wrong in real life? no, because they engage in 'magical thinking.'
Can i convince someone abortion is wrong? no, because it only hinges on when a zygote actually becomes a person.
But troofers, although stupid, do not engage in "magical thinking". They don't think "superman works for the CIA and he raced around and knocked all those buildings down and then magneto caused the steel to bend so it looked like an explosion from an airplane."

Their logic is paranoid and basically disjointed, they don't think things through ALL THE WAY to its logical conclusion.
So at least they can be reasoned with.

I've seen a lot of posts about truthers lately. And it seems like some of these people were mentally ill well before they became truthers. The ones who do piss me off though are the blow horn types.

I had to look that up. Sounds legit man, you might want to listen to him!

The Nibiru collision is a supposed disastrous encounter between the Earth and a large planetary object (either a collision or a near-miss) which certain groups believe will take place in the early 21st century. Believers in this doomsday event usually refer to this object as Planet X or Nibiru. The idea that a planet-sized object could collide with or pass by Earth in the near future is not supported by any scientific evidence and has been rejected as pseudoscience by astronomers and planetary scientists.[1]

The idea was first put forward in 1995 by Nancy Lieder, founder of the website ZetaTalk. Lieder describes herself as a contactee with the ability to receive messages from extra-terrestrials from the Zeta Reticuli star system through an implant in her brain. She states that she was chosen to warn mankind that the object would sweep through the inner Solar System in May 2003 (though that date was later abandoned) causing Earth to undergo a pole shift that would destroy most of humanity.

I would rather have a few good friends (people I can trust because I share their values), than a lot of "friends" that I don't have much in common with.  With the advent of social networking such as Facebook, I think that accumulating friends has become a competition instead of a bond of trust.

I don't think the situation you described was a failure on your part.  If friendship is the acknowledgment of common values, then the friendship cannot continue if those values are no longer shared.  One of you changed and the other didn't.  Appreciate the friendship for what it was.

I don't hate people who think the moon landings were fake because its just silly. ok, so the USA never went to the moon, whoop de do.
But IMO troofers are spitting on the 3000 people who died. I lost a LOT of class mates in that attack. In 2001 I got a special alumnus letter from my high school, and in my grade alone we lost about 10 people 3 of whom i knew personally.

My anger and rage does not come from him believing the mechanics of the truther stuff. It comes with his assertion that it wasnt extreme muslims that did it, and that they have never attacked the US. That it is a conspiracy with Bush Cheney and the Jews to keep the muslims down.

I still don't get it.  Sure, if they specifically say "Oh, those dead people are just hiding out in government bunkers" I get it, that would imply the victims were somehow "in on it", which is disgusting.

But the general story is the mean old government did it, but they're really dead.  It's just the same distrust of our government most on the right wing espouse, but amplified a million times by kooky paranoia and a love of conspiracy theories.  They would still see the dead as victims, just with a different perpetrator.

If there is a conspiracy it is something to the effect that FBI et al. had been watching the perps and did nothing or "not enough" to stop them for whatever reason. Trying to cover up something as simple as that would make the moonbats come out of the woodwork. Not saying that is the case, but it is a suspicion. That doesnt equal the govt. planned it or wanted it to happen; for whatever fucked up reason.

Yeah, I know a guy who was kind of a troofer, may still be but I don't know - he's always real subtle about what he believes.  Uses the old "Hey, I'm just asking questions, not saying anything!" line.

What's weird is he's extremely intelligent, so I don't get it.  He's just into conspiracies, the man behind the curtain, he's _way_ against any kind of modern medicine - anti-vaccine though I've more or less brow beaten him away from talking about that at least.  Thinks our dental work is killing us with mercury, the "Man" is holding back herbs as cure-alls for big pharma, etc...

I don't know that it's narcissism in his case, just some odd quirk of his personality that overrides his natural intelligence.
