He said his new plan will cut 2 dollars for every dollar of New Revenue. When you think about it is not that the same as shaving 1 dollar off the current budget? Bonus question If I raise your taxes one dollar and cut my budget by one dollar why do I need to raise taxes in the first place. I suck at math.

Let's say you make $100 a week currently. You spend $150 per week, and are going further into debt as time goes on. You are gaining $50 in debt as each week passes.
Now lets say you decide to get another job to add some revenue. You find a job that pays $10 a week. In order to "help" your situation, you decide to cut your budget by $2 for every new dollar of revenue. This means, you are cutting your budget by $20 per week, and earning $10 more per week. Your new revenue is now $110 per week. You're now spending $130 per week. You are still going further into debt each week, only slightly slower than before. Your debt continues to grow because you are still spending significantly more than you are earning, and there is no end in sight to your massive bills. Yet, you continue to brag on your current situation because it is marginally "better" than the previous one. Now multiply these numbers by tenfold, and you have something similar to what Obama has come up with. The "extra job" is taxing the rich more, and "cutting the budget" is vague promises of spending decreases over the next 10 years. |
