Major battery companies will cover the cost of a replacement or repair of devices damaged by battery corrosion.
Here's the contact info for Duracell and Rayovac: http://www.streamlight.com/Support/alakline-damage.aspx I've personally done this for a Maglight and a Dorcy flashlight. Called them up, they took down my information and sent me a check and a prepaid mailer to send the lights back, along with a coupon for free batteries. |

Duracells are (unfortunately) widely counterfeited. It is possible you had fake batteries that were not even alkaline. Can you spot the fake one in this photo: ![]() http://legalresearch-llm.blogspot.com/2010/11/counterfeit-products.html |

I'm switching over to Sanyo eneloop (rechargeable NiMH) for everything AA & AAA powered.
http://www.thomasdistributing.com/Sanyo-Eneloop_c_1020.html FWIW, DMM's (even good ones, lighlty used Flukes etc) are dirt cheap on eBay. |

I just recently experienced the same disappointment with Duracell's in my mini Maglite. I sent Duracell an email and heard back within 24hrs. They apologized & asked how much was a replacement. I replied and sent them a link for a local Ace Hardware - $11.97 + 6% sales tax. The next morning, I received another msg, again apologizing and they said they would have a check in the mail for $12.69 + coupons for up to 8 new AA Duracell batteries. Much to my pleasant surprise, I had a check & the coupons in the mailbox within 6 days. |

Alkalines weigh more than carbon-zincs. |
