Oh Yeah! What next!??

Some of these patients desire to keep their placentas for cultural reasons. However, a growing trend is on the rise of new moms that actually want to eat them.

A recent feature in New York Magazine called "The Placenta Cookbook,” took an in-depth look at the placentophagia fad from the professional placenta-preparer, to the women who call on her for services.

Bodybuilders used to get them from hospitals to eat.

Not sure if that's true. It was something I remember hearing about in the early 90s.

I think certain animals eat their placenta to stimulate milk production.

Either way, that is gross.

One of the old SNL skits from the 80's had fake credits rolling afterwords .....one of the sponsors was Rent-a-Placenta

You've confused me.  I don't see how breast milk and bloody after-birth have anything in common.

Helps recover nutrients, also keeps the scavengers (that could also threaten the young) away.

I have, however handled several placentas and I can't see how anyone would WANT to eat the damn things.

Hippies, enviro-freaks, new-age yoga fruitcakes do this shit.  Hippies, enviro-freaks, and new age yogastyel fruitcakes tend to be far left commies that want me to be "open-minded", but also want to take my guns and have right-wing politicians marched into the gas-chamber.  Fuck them

I know of vegans that have done this.  The only meat consumed in 10+ years of their ridiculous lifestyle.

They justify, no less embrace it with the understanding that the mother "gave it willingly".

I believe humans are on the downside of evolving. Pretty soon we will lose the power of speach and oposable thumbs.  Seriously just because its nutrient rich doesn't mean it isn't disgusting.

The instructor mentioned this in the child birthing class we took before our daughter was born.

She said that after her daughter had her baby (the instructors grandaughter) she sent the placenta to be turned into a powder or something so she could put it on her food to eat. Most of the class thought it was disgusting, including the instructor.

My wife got hers encapsulated, there's still half a jar left in the fridge.  Good hormone replacement, it did wonders for her.  I was a little grossed out by the idea at first, but it wasn't too terrible and now I'm totally on board.

Haters gon' hate.

Placebo effect.

Placenta benefits are concocted.by "lifestyle gurus" not doctors.  They like to think they made a discovery about our modern lifestyle not being good enough, and think that because animals do it, and we are animals, we should act like them.

Notice the theme?  Make us animals .........its a Darwinist agenda and ritual.

Nonsense.  I've not noticed my wife becoming any less civilized in any way.  Your agenda is showing.

As an aside, are you referring to the same doctors who insist that the best manner in which a woman can deliver a child is strapped on her back with the birth canal pointing up?  What a marked improvement over other techniques.

Lol. Not a creationist.  It was a good opportunity to poke fun at both extremes.

As far as birthing?  Whatever gets the parasite out without a c section scar doc!

Apparently,it's pretty big - well, relatively speaking - in the Pacific North-West,or at least was told by a girl from Oregon that she sold hers and that's pretty common.

I gave that unwanted bit of info the treatment and didn't need a reminder to never, ever eat lunch with that creature again.

I nearly puked when I saw that thing come out of my wife's body - tending it in a delicate stir fry is OFF the menu.

Doesn't the DSM list a disorder concerning people who eat parts of themselves?  Although actually it was a part of the baby, so isn't it cannibalism?
