I think a used travel trailer would have been cheaper and easier.  Just park it at the nearest KOA and done.

Yeah, but this will get him all the "save the earth" smelly, hairy hippy chicks. Especially if he goes to UCSC.

The school project was to research and build something not just buy it

Yup, he's gonna be in for a rude awakening when he tries to drop that "house" on campus and the school tells him no, as does everybody else.

I like it.  Would have loved to do something like that when I was his age.

In high school I always wanted to take a full size cargo van (used in good shape are like $3000), make the outside like the A-Team and the inside put folding cots on one wall and make it into a bug-out type mobile home van.

In before 'down by the river!'

That would be awesome if it weren't so creepy.

Great learning experience.

I'm still not sure how practical it is.

Guy I knew in college built himself a small A-frame in the one trailer park outside of town. Was about tent size. Barely big enough to stand up in.

He eventually finished his engineering degree, joined the Army, became a Ranger and got his medical degree. Last I heard, he's still in.

Unusual guy.

Friend of my room mate spent four years plus most of his summers living in a 15' travel trailer.  It was set up in the back yard of an old widow10+ acre lot.  It was pretty cool for a single dude to live in but kinda kreepy too.

Yeah but a close by RV hook up place will cost a hell of a lot less than a dorm on campus and he can cook his own meals too.
