| Fox reporting major shake up at ATF over fast and furious. Melson being removed.... |

Quoted:
It will be someone from Chicago that is a more corrupt crook but much better at not getting caught. Former mayor Daley perhaps? The former or present head of the atf in chicago. He's already been touted. Big anti. Don't remember his name. NRA will fight him tooth and nail, plus congress won't approve him. I think fast and furious is now too large to sweep anywhere. Grassley and Issa, I don't think, will let this lay. |

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/08/30/sources-atf-director-to-be-reassigned-amid-fast-and-furious-uproar/ ETA: Kenneth Melson, who heads the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, will be reassigned elsewhere in the Justice Department. An announcement is expected late Tuesday morning. emphasis added
ETA-2: With Melson's reassignment, Attorney General Eric Holder will have to fill the top job at ATF.
Great.. just great.
The likely replacement, ATF Chicago Office head Andrew Traver, was nominated last November by Holder. His nomination is opposed by the National Rifle Association. |

Maybe Melson will begin to think he's the goat staked to a tree and decide to cover his ass with some "found" memos. Already in the works, he didn't use the doj lawyers and brought in his own when he testified before congress about F&F. By keeping him in doj and not firing him he cannot run to the press and expose the whole deal. |

Quoted:
Tarver was the nominee last I checked. Obama has been trying to get his appointment through, but hasn't gotten Congress to do it. Tried to make a recess appointment, but failed at that, too. Obama failed to make the recess appointments because a few freshman Congressmen like West stayed in DC and kept Congress technically in session, so there was no recess. |

I was afraid F&F would have an ending like this. Is there any word at all about future F&F action from the justice commitee or have they dropped it? There are a few more hearing scheduled if I remember right..... I don't think this is going to play out well in Congress. The bloodletting will be deep this election year, count on this to be used heavily as we get nearer the election. |

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0811/62320.html Melson’s replacement is B. Todd Jones, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota. Jones "is a demonstrated leader who brings a wealth of experience to this position,” Holder said. "I have great confidence that he will be a strong and steady influence guiding ATF in fulfilling its mission of combating violent crime by enforcing federal criminal laws and regulations in the firearms and explosives industries.” |

This way they can keep track of him. Melson may, and I emphasize may, be one of the good ones in this mess. Stay tuned. |
