Dog has been acting odd, licking the bed sheets, not wanting to eat.

This morning, the bed sheet was covered with what looks like tiny yellowish rice grains.

From what I can figure out with some google-fu, they are tapeworm eggs.

Lovely.

Those are the ones that didn't make it to their new home (your mouth, eyes, ears or other warm mucousy areas), and they are probably pin worms, not tape worm eggs.

They're on your bed sheet?

I'm thinking you might want to have YOURSELF checked out too.

If you start dropping weight but are eating as much or more than usual, go to the doc.

It's been done already.

In the 1940s/50s, they used to sell tapeworm eggs as a "weight loss aid."

I'm not kidding.

ETA: Okay, I was just Googling around.  I guess it was between around 1900 and 1920, and the extent to which people actually did this is undetermined, but it is generally believed there is at least some truth to it.

There was an "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" episode where Carl was losing weight by eating worm egg infested "Diet Bars".

As usual, it did not work out well for Carl...

Lift his tail and see if there are more trying to "escape", seriously doubt its tapeworm.  Tapeworm segs ususally show in stool and can't crawl.

They weren't crawling, they were just laying there, kind of stuck to the sheet.  They look JUST like the images of tapeworm segments I found online.

They are not shaped right to be ringworm eggs.

you haven't taken your dog to the vet to be de-wormed?     That usually SOP  with vet visits.

Have you allowing your dog to be around other dogs that may have worms or have access to other dogs shit?

Doesn't have to be shit from other dogs.

His dog could be outside, and it finds and eats rabbit shit or other kinds of animal shit.

Bingo.

Fuckin' worms.

Could also just get the eggs on his paws, and lick his paws later on.

Bingo.

Fuckin' worms.

(That's also how a lot of humans get pinworms BTW - dirty fingernails, and not washing their hands before eating).

Have you been feeding your dog egg salad sanwich's from vending machines in truckstop restrooms?

The ones you see on something won't be moving, they're dead.  Once upon a time when we had cats, we had that problem.  The cats favorite place to lay down was an old wooden chair, and when they would get down there would be the "dried rice grains" on the chair.  It was pin worms or something like that.  Like I said, tapeworm segments usually show up in stool as little white squares or rectangles and don't move.  Also, eggs cant crawl so if you are finding them on something, they got there by crawling/wiggling.

Wes

ETA - I stand corrected, a little google goes a long ways.

Tape worms don't so much take excess calories as they do vitamins and minerals. You'll have problems with malnutrition before you see any noticeable weight loss.

You should check your dog's bed.  He might also have worms if he has been licking your sheets.

You get Tapeworms by eating fleas. Call your vet tomorrow and ask if they will dispense pills to treat. Vet's medicine will probably work better than anything you get OTC or online. Email if you have more questions as I don't check my arfmail often. [email protected]

No, and the dog did not suddenly get smart and strong, either.

Really?

I've never heard that before.

Anyway, here is a link to the Mayo Clinic on-line article about how you get tapeworms.

The dog tapeworm comes from eating fleas. Human tapes have different sources. Eliminate the fleas and he won't get them again.

Yup, sounds like tapeworm "segments". Tapeworms are caused by the dod / cat ingesting a flea that is carrying the tapeworm. Most of the time harmless unless multiple tapeworms are present in the animal. If your dog has also"Lost" it's appetite, then you should have him / her checked out by a DVM.

My wife gave her "Sentry HC Worm X Plus" (pyrantel pampate/praziquantel).

One tablet is supposed to be for dogs up to 12lbs.  She weighs 12lbs, is one enough?
