Open carry should just be banned and the end with all of this.................. Then what next conceal carry? Better LEO training would help. Concealed only in public all firearms........ No open carry Why not? It causes problems and scares people who conceal their firearms |

Open carry should just be banned and the end with all of this.................. Or ban fucking idiots... We wouldn't have to sit in traffic jams, explain simple tasks a half a dozen times, Stand in the express lane while some asshole rings out 40 things, deal with dupes or anything like that. |

| That whole situation doesn't apply in GA anymore. That old law was rescinded last year and the new law took effect Jul.1. But those guys were still abiding by the old law as well out there in the street. If they would have crossed the street and stepped foot on the state property, then they would have been in violation. |

OCers failed by not having a copy of the pertinent laws on hand in case he ran in to a cop that didn't know the law, the cops failed by not knowing the law. Yeah, I know I always carry a complete copy of all MS and federal laws just in case the cops don't know they laws they are supposed to enforce.

No open carry Why not? It causes problems and scares people who conceal their firearms For tactical reasons (mainly, preserving the element of surprise), I prefer CCW, but I fully support the right to open carry, and have never heard of a concealed carrier being "scared" by an open carrier. It disheartens me when members of this board come out in support of any form of a ban on the exercise of gun rights by law abiding citizens. |

I can't trust the cops to know how to do their job, it is just easier to show officer Fife the law so he can go off and hassle....er....investigate some other law abiding citizen. |

No open carry Why not? It causes problems and scares people who conceal their firearms Prohibiting a legal activity solely on the basis that it may "scare" others is the way they do things in Great Britain and those people have been virtually enslaved by virtue of ot being illegal to cause any discomfort to others. Many are scared of free speech, that doesn't mean they should be accommodated by silencing everyone else. Once people become more familiar with an object or activity they less likely to be "scared". The antis have spent decades incrementally ensuring that people are scared of firearms and the same argument you posed was used against the reform of the concealed carry laws. They claimed that there would be blood in the streets and it would resemble the wild west, if concealed carry was allowed. |

Not once have I been scared by someone OC. |

OCers failed by not having a copy of the pertinent laws on hand in case he ran in to a cop that didn't know the law, the cops failed by not knowing the law. I did just that, it doesn't work. When I was 18, I had legally purchased a pistol FTF in FL and was on my way home from hunting late on a saturday night. The gun was securely incased, in a locked plastic pistol case in the trunk, with the mag and ammo in the locked glove box. Previously I had printed a copy of the statute protecting my right to possess and use the pistol (and transport in the manner indicated) strait from the FL state website. It was roughly 2 AM and I took a turn down an urban road on my way home, there had apparently been a drive by shooting just minutes earlier. As I drove, the officer flagged me down and asked for ID, and asked if I had any firearms in the vehicle. I responded "yes." OOPS, WRONG ANSWER. I was asked to turn off my vehicle and step out of it. I complied, and they asked where the weapon was, I told them it was in the trunk and the mag was in the glove box, they took the keys from me and located both. I had a 9mm, the drive by was done with a .22. They ran the serial, found it was not stolen, and asked me how I acquired it, I told them. At this point I asked if I could fetch a document from my center console, and I was allowed to. I produced the document stating my rights, and they essentially told me that a piece of paper I could have typed up myself doesn't mean shit. They asked the LT on the scene what to do, he had them confiscate my property and tell me not to have a pistol in my possession without an adult present. (I thought I was an adult at 18, oops, wrong again) After a shitload of leg work on my end, I finally got them to release it to my father about 3 months later after it had sat in an evidence bag and rusted all to shit (I fell in a river while hunting, and was planning to clean it off when I got home) they wouldn't release it to me because I wasn't 21. Make of that what you will. |

Make of that what you will. Having the paper work will only protect you from a good cop who doesn't know the law, bad cops think (and basically are) above the law, and if you don't know the laws you are supposed to enforce and screw someone over anyway YOU ARE A BAD COP.

Quoted: Open carry should be banned. It's not the frigging wild west! Most of the individuals who open carry wouldn't know what to do under stress in a SHTF sit. "Wild west..." I frequently see that phrase used by gun grabbers. <––- DU is that way; make haste. |

Now that I live in an OC state, I do so regularly. Still not 21.
I've OC'd for 2 years and in that time I've only been stopped once by an LEO, who was some what of an idiot, there was a long ass thread about it. I've been stopped at least a dozen times, by average citizens asking me "can I buy a gun? I didn't know that was legal, awesome!" all positive comments. The only negative comment I've gotten was from a couple of super douche hippy looking ass clowns (they were white with dreads and grateful dead t shirts, the whole sha bang) let me know that "I was more likely to be killed with my gun than someone elses and that if I didn't have a gun, criminals wouldn't need to use a gun." |

I don't OC, but I like knowing it's an option if I need to. Also, if my firearm is exposed for whatever reason, it's good to know that I'm not suddenly running afoul of the law. |

Open carry is fucking stupid. Why? Because it draws unnecessary attention to you. I would just rather be another face in the crowd, blending in, rather than having all eyes on me. It serves no point. Other than that part of the 2nd Amendment that says something about bearing arms, you're right. |

And allows people to see guns in an urban environment NOT killing people, plus it has given me several opportunities to educate people about the 2nd amendment. It can serve a point if done properly and not just because you want an opportunity to be a dick to the cops. |
