My father passed away a couple weeks ago.  he recieved his SS check forst of the month, he was still living.  Does he get another in Sept?  Is SS like end of month pay or is it for the current month?

My MIL passed away on the 25th of the month.  If my memory is correct, they came back for the payment she had received on he first of that same month.
It's been a couple of years, but I was managing her affairs and her bank account, and I think that's how it went down.  For sure she didn't get the payment due for the following month.  You don't have to worry about paying it back voluntarily––they will come and get it!

The short answer is that check must be returned to SS.  You must be alive the entire month the check is received.

You can look around a bit more on their site of course but essentially SS checks are paid in advance.

Yes, 'paid in advance'. Payment must be returned.
